Is a E63 a good daily driver?
This week or next I'm planning to place an order for an E63 that meets my custom configuration. I live in New York City and walk to work so the car will primarily be driven on the highway.
I've decided to go for the ceramic brakes. I'm going to buy the car and probably hold onto it and I'm told that the ceramic brakes last 120,000 miles and cost $25,000 to change where as the regular breaks only last 18,000 miles and cost $5000 to change. Normally I drive about 20,000 miles a year so if you do the math ceramics cost less
I'm worried about flat tires caused by the combination of low profile and potholes but I've decided to try to find the 19 inch rim somewhere or to put a spare in the back of the car.
Can anyone think of any reason why my primary car should not be on E63?

Fuel economy is not on par with an econo-sedan. I typically see around 18-20 mpg on the highway. In my normal < 5 mile commute to work with significant elevation changes and stoplights I average about 12-13 mpg. Roughly the same as my F-250 with 6.0 l diesel and Jeep Wrangler get so a wash in my case.
Ride will be firmer than your S class even in comfort mode, but not objectionable to me - YMMV.
So far potholes have not been a problem for me and my rims are holding up fine. Did get a flat on my right rear due to puncture of the inner sidewall by what was probably a pointy rock I encountered while ripping up a local mountain road.
The tire sealant and pump provided were not going to fix that. A call to Mercedes was all that was required to dispatch a flatbed tow truck. As I was quite some distance from town, there was a fair wait, but the 40+ mile tow to the dealership for a new tire (which I was going to replace anyway the next week due to wear).
I daily drive the car and have almost exactly 10,000 miles on it now and it’s 13 months old. Most of the time, I don’t drive it if it’s a rainy day and use a different vehicle just to save the trouble of washing it, But it does fine in the rain when I do drive it.
The Grey magno paint has been very easy to maintain.

I have mine as a daily driver and do love it. I do have a gripe about the ride quality which I think is too harsh in Comfort, certainly too harsh for a £100k car. The difference between Comfort suspension and other modes is negligible.
That being said, it’s an amazing car and the ride is only a problem on specific roads, on the highway it’s fantastic, just not so good on broken B roads. The UK has quite a few of those!!!
I have done over 2,000 miles in 2 months so am in it a lot and it is an absolute hoot to drive overall.

I had an S65, and have a C63, with standard AMG composite brakes, like the standard brakes on the E63S. The S65 (which is heavier and saw a lot of high-speed braking) did not need the rotors replaced in the 50,000+ miles I had it. The C63 has 40,000+ miles on the original rotors.
If your shop tells you that you need new rotors with less than 30,000 miles on them, demand to see them miked. I once had the dealer pull that, only to "discover" that the mechanic warped them in pulling them off, but that they miked in spec. They replaced them for free, of course.
My E63S build does not include ceramic brakes.

Two totally different cars.
If you like the long sedan, quiet and comfortable ride; stick with the S class. Check out the new S560.
With the E63S, you will get a very fun, powerful sedan that has mind blowing performance. In terms of size: less back seat leg room, not as wide, and has more trunk space than an S (can also drop the back seats down). Can totally use as a daily driver and in winter.
I suggest before you pull the trigger, actually drive one if you can. Then drive the new S. See what you like.
I recently drove an S63. In my opinion-does not drive as precise as the E63. Not as fun as the E63. I think the S560 does the S class better. But this is all personal taste. As a pure highway cruiser, S class is an amazing car.

I daily drive my E63s. A little firm but no biggie. Mileage is nowhere as good as the S6 I replaced, but if you buy an AMG with 600+hp, who cares. I am in the NE as well. I have never even changed my extreme summer tires on my prior M3 and S6 and drove them in the dead of winter and snow. S6 never had an issue. M3 did as it is rear wheel drive. The E63 has yet to be driven in any meaningful snow, but it has handled fine in 25 degrees. Never had a pothole flat or rim bend in any of my cars and they were all super low profile rims. I am in NJ, land of potholes. Just be careful!

I have had my E63S for 1 week and drive it every day. I have the sport seats. I love it. I live in a rural area so there are few stops on my daily commute of 25 miles round trip. In my opinion, the ride is firm and not harsh. My previous daily driver was an 08 WRX STi that I heavily modified for autocrossing. The STi was harsh and loud. The E63S to me is a dream. Great power. Smooth but firm ride. I love the instant torque of the V8. I have the rubber floor mats and trunk protector. I've already picked up potting soil at Lowes, made multiple grocery store runs etc... The cargo net, drop down hook for grocery bags and the "kick to open" trunk are great features. I car have not used the collapsible cargo box yet. I was concerned it would slide around. I only have 500 miles on my car so I have not met the 1,000 mile break-in period to really open it up. I keep looking for reasons to make long drives to add miles.

2018 E63S AMG
I do use the collapsible box in the trunk to carry misc loose items. It doesn't slide around too much on ordinary driving. Even when I have a go at the odd corner around down it doesn't move around all that much. I do take it out or anchor it down with the net if I'm going to the mountain for some canyon carving.
One problem that I've had with the netting is the plastic anchor hooks coming apart. They do snap back together, but I'm thinking of running a screw or bolt through them to prevent future occurrences.

As previously stated, I wouldn't worry about the wheels. The ride quality between the two cars will be very different so it's important to have some seat time before making a purchase. We have the performance seats which are comfortable to me and hold you well in your place but are bare bone compared to the S-Class. The standard seat will provide a massage/dynamic bolsters, etc.
Overall the car is wicked fun but the wife is not enjoying the stiff ride. Also, compared to the S-Class interior (if exclusive nappa) the E63s is low-rent. Lots of plastic in the interior.
The S560 is definitely a car to look at. The engine in the S560 is from the same engine family (M176/M177/M178) and was designed by AMG. It's actually full of AMG-stamped components. Also easily tunable is so desired.
Either way, you can't go wrong with either!
In regards to brakes, even though the stopping distance is not better with CCB's, I feel it grips better. Also no brake dust
If you lease, I don't see any maintenance costs other than new pads during that time. That said, I'll take CCB's over the 3D Burmester...

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I can speak from the experience of having just got rid of my 2015 S550 and my 2018 E63 AMG. I traded the S550 in for a 2019 E450 Wagon and have no regrets. I do a lot of highway driving like 25 to 30 K per year and I'm finding the E450 Wagon very comfortable and the performance has exceeded my expectations and fuel economy I can get 32 mpg on the highway. For my weekend sports car I traded my 2018 E63 AMG in for a 2019 E450 Cabriolet. Again with the twin turbo V6 the car has exceeded my expectations and If down the road I do decide I want it even faster, I can do a tune and have the car pushing over 470 HP. I'm thinking the OE OBD tune once they come out with the handheld programmers. As it stands the E450 will do 0 to 60 in around 4.8 seconds which is all I really need, ya at the top end the E63 AMG is much faster but under normal driving conditions the E450's pull great and you can't really tell too much of difference between the E63 AMG and the E450 believe it or not. The sound of the V6 is actually starting to grow on me too, I always thought I had to have that V8 roar, I've found that not to be necessarily so. Both my E450's seem to handle great and when pushed hard in corners stick to the road very well. Of course when pushed to the extreme the E63 AMG will handle better but most people don't drive that way unless you live near canyon roads or a race track. My E450 Cab has the AMG line package and nice wide tires, the rears are 275/30/19 inch. My suggestion you should really check out the E450's and compare unless you are looking for extreme performance in which case the E63 Amg is the way to go. I just never really warmed up to my E63 AMG wagon even though I tried as hard as I could to tell myself I really liked the car. To me the e450 feels more comfortable, smoother and practical. I think the E63 AMG was perhaps a little too raw for my personal liking. I just really did not enjoy driving the car.

I would have guessed 95% of the people on this forum would enjoy something that improves the quality of the experience inside the vehicle more than they would enjoy less brake fade (because I doubt many of us actually get into spirited driving enough to the point where we'd notice brake fade?)

I have had our 2019 E63s wagon a little over a week and absolutley love driving it everywhere. Have 1200 miles on it. Yes, the comfort suspension is a little firm, no more so than my BMW or Mazda., but not as soft as previous Jaguar or E350. My wife did not complain on our trip up the CA coast, and she absolutley loves the massage seats. They are her favorite thing about the car.
i love the performance (power, handling) and drive it every chance I get. Did not get ceramic brakes, but did get distronic adaptive cruise. I find it very nice to use on long trips and stop and go fwy traffic.
so far it is the best/most fun car i have ever had.
i got the soft close doors, and find them pretty much useless. Having fun with the performance exhaust.
currently in Austin for perf driving class.
fyi, i let a police officer friend drive it and he was blown away with the performance. He said my wagon was much better and more fun to drive than the police chase Charger.

have wagon for 10 month. To me its a perfect DD: I can stop by at costco and load up whatever I buy, drive my dogs to the park, cruise 4 people in comfort to the airport and when I'm alone and no groceries in the trunk I can switch to individual and take some fun twisty road with slightly excessive speed.

Your numbers are wrong. With heavy use, it's possible that you would need front pads after 18,000 miles but not rotors. This is a normal brake job, in the hundreds, not thousands.

Had to replace rotors in SL65 after just 8k miles, after 12k miles in S65, had zero issues with CCBs in CLS and E63 both over 50k miles.
Hard use in cold climate and frequent getting the brakes to very high temps do not go well together, they warp easily.
I would never ever order a car without ceramic brakes again.
Another comment to e55phil, I'm afraid 19" wheel will not fit over CCB rotors.

I would have guessed 95% of the people on this forum would enjoy something that improves the quality of the experience inside the vehicle more than they would enjoy less brake fade (because I doubt many of us actually get into spirited driving enough to the point where we'd notice brake fade?)
I did get the CCBs and love them. No issues with how well the car stops when the brakes are cold or hot, no squealing or other noise. Best of all, no brake dust

Car is comfy but not isolated from the road, sporty, but not punishing. I also have the performance seats and they fit me perfectly—no fatigue. But I’d recommend sitting it them if you can prior to ordering if you are considering them. If they don’t fit your body geometry, it could be bad.
Got the CCBs and love them—love the lack of dust and the aesthetics.

Excellent Daily. I was daily driving my GT3 for a month and couldn't do it anymore because 918 carbon bucket seats so I purchased my E63s. I see some people mentioning about the ride quality not being so comfortable but coming form a GT3, the E63 feels like a Rolls Royce

So...just picked my ‘wagon’ back from the Xpel guys after a week away! God I missed it!
Very, very bizarre thing! I’ve been driving a Q7 and a 5 series touring while it’s been away, both floaty, soft rides.
I get in the E63 and the ride is nowhere near as harsh as I remember it? Harder for sure but not as bad as I described before.
It’s been indoors in a garage for 7 days, I wonder if the summer tyres don’t like being left out in the bloody freezing cold weather 24/7? My car is left outside on my drive and it’s been around 2 deg recently???

I drive my E63s wagon everyday and love it . Live just outside NYC and drive in the city as well no issues

But brake dust really annoys me and I don't mind listening to the sound of the engine/exhaust
