Can you add a 115V outlet to a 2007 GL450?

Can you add a 115V outlet to a 2007 GL450?

I heard there is one in the 2010-2012 models so I'm just wondering if there is a way to add it into my 2007 truck?

Sure, absolutely you could. It's just an electrical device - go for it! Post how you do it, in case others are interested.

You have a 12v outlet in left rear area. You can open the panel, tap into it and fix above or similar device at an appropriate location.
It’s a different discussion if all this would be worth the effort but it can certainly be done.

is there an interchangeable center console in a future year that I can just swap out? I would like to be able to plug in a laptop or something without remembering an inverter

You could find a spot to hardwire (find and unused fuse) the inverter, then extend to the 110V side of the inverter to more convenient location and add a suitable outlet.

FYI... you wouldn't have to "remember" the inverter if you used the plug-in style... the inverter can stay in the car all the time. Mine is in the little net pocket on the passenger side footwell. Plugs in right above the net.

It might help to remember that you don't need but a tiny inverter to power a laptop supply.

Pretty funny that you're asking a specific question (can you make it like the OEM) and all you get is a bunch of workarounds. Truth be told, no way would I attempt making it like OEM, not for that kind of minimal return. I'd do as Dennis suggested and find the smallest inverter you can get away with. It's also a long shot, but your laptop ultimately needs DC and you might be able to find a car-specific power supply for it. It's kind of wasteful to go up to 110 and back down to, say, 15.

Did you ever find a solution?

Interesting.... in my GLE and the '12 ML previous.. the 110v is in the back seat area... if your sitting in the back seat, passenger side, you reach down between your legs and it's right there under a little spring loaded cover...

If you know somebody local with a ML/GLE guessing 2012 or above... you could lift the passenger side, rear seat bottom cushion to see if the inverter is close by ? if yes...

I would envision you could modify that setup to fit in your 2007... but you likely need to cut a hole somewhere to install...

Mikcheck, Apparently I'm bored so started poking round Apple TV's etc... game consoles...

Looked up your vehicle user manual, did you know there is a 12v outlet under the passenger side dash in the footwell ? Another good spot to Mount an inverter or better yet the one in the rear area, perhaps pull that side cover off and mount an inverter in that panel ?

In the 2012 GL there is a 115v plug in the rear compartment, I don't know if that panel is the same for 2007, kinda doubt it but ya never now...

If you ask nice maybe someone could pull that panel and see if the inverter is physically located there... if it's all 1 bundle in the panel I can't imagine it would be too hard to install it in a rear side panel of your 2007 ?

I admit I use the 115v in my gle for may laptop on long trips, wife drives while i work... it's a nice to have option...

just got to remember to grab one of the 2 to 3 prong adapters !!!

This is where it's located in the ml/gle from 2012 and up.....

The 2012 GL450 location is the rear side panel

Hope this helps...

Mike
