W205 C63 non-s vs W204 C63 507
I've already asked this question in W204 forum but I thought it would be fair to get your guys' perspective on this as well.
I'm trying to decide between getting a W204 507 while they're still available in CPO, or to wait and get a W205 C63 s/non-s.
There are already some posts asking this questions back when the W205 first came out, but now that we're more used to the new W205 design language and the year 2018 is coming to a close, I'm curious what people think?
For me, even though I know objectively the W205 is the better car, I kind of like the personality of the 507 a bit more. The steering...I don't know how to describe the difference but I liked the W204 better, The suspensions feel a little more rougher around the edges. and the SOUND! I think this all comes together to what many people describe the W204 as a more "raw" experience.
At the same time, I'm part of the camp who thinks the W205 is much better looking interior and exterior wise, and the fuel economy (I know I shouldn't be thinking of fuel economy on a V8) but man, to have a V8 that consumes that little gas can only be a pro. But just puttering around town is a bit more boring in the W205 (which I don't like).

for me it would come down to price if I couldn't choose the car model. if you were talking about a ppp w204 with an LSD that is half the price of the w205 then from a depreciation and cost perspective, w204 all the way and smile at my bank balance. if the 507 is only a few $k cheaper than the w205 then I'm not so sure. the 507 holds its value better while the 205 depreciates heavily initially. the 507 is more of a collectors item. it is rarer too.
in terms of being an entertainer, though I've only had a go in a non507 edition 204 , the 205 s version is more fun for me personally , it does wheel spins on demand , has a more sophisticated traction control system and sport handling mode is brilliant. The 205 has a better transmission , much nicer interior, steering wheel and better tech and seats too..it is more comfortable as a daily and it's fuel tank is sufficient for a cruise while The 204's isn't. The 204 steering might have more feel but isn't as sharp and accurate from memory. The 204 has to be revved hard to get the torque surge but the 205 gives you the goods from a stand still and is more of a tyre shredder. After all is said and done, I personally would go with the 507 edition provided I get it for the right price over a non s c63 pre facelift if I can get an extended warranty in a heart beat. not because it is a better car, but because it is rare and exclusive...

You describe the w204 exactly as I am and would.
I have the C63 S w205 and my dream car was all the time the w204 c63.
Time went and when i finally made it to a purchase it got to be the newer w205 c63s because of all the upgrades yada yada but it took me so long (still am) to like it since its another type of beast and I really wanted the w204 for the feeling i got from the numerous drives in those, where I wasnt ready to own one.
Do what makes you happy and dont do my mistake (too rational thinking) - this way you wont need to start liking after the purchase...

Personally, I would go 507 every time.
I generally choose the drive/excitement over comfort and you just can't beat the drive of the W204.

funny but I found the opposite. 205 s to be far more exciting than the 204 with 480ish hp pp version . the sound on the 204 though and the engine ... unbeatable ... but it is a one trick pony vs the 205 which corners brilliantly vs the 204 pp at least has more torque and far more precise, balanced and rewarding than the 204 . it's a definite upgrade over the 204 in all respects. i was close a couple of times to taking a 204 but the 205 kills it when driven from a stop and when driven hard and that is the most important thing for me. it's just the 204s have done their heavy depreciating already which makes them the better buy in my books. The 507 specifically being quite rare would be the big pull for me and it's looks and hood vents. I did look for one as part of my recent purchase but there weren't many 507 estates in the UK and the few they had, had a lot of mileage on the clock

If I was in your place, I'd go with the M156 507 every time. The engine is a masterpiece, the (NA V8) sound alone is insane, pure, and powerful. Also, from a maintenance point of view, the M156 is an easy engine to work on, due to the simpler design & less stuff involved. As for styling, I always liked the W204 facelifted style over the W205. Finally, the 507 is a rare car, and is starting to be a collector's item.
Good luck.

lastly I really don't know about the collector item part , not sure where you are but over here in Toronto even tho you don't see them a lot but there are always MANY MANY 507s in all the colors for sale and prices are decreasing slowly. even as we speak there are 3 w204 blackseries for sale one being 2013 . there is NO shortage here for w204 amgs in toronto

205. The tech is so much better, interior is light years better, and the potential if you're going to mod is seriously impressive. Not to mention it shares the same engine with the e63,gts,gtr... It's a no Brainer unless you're not willing to spend the money. I know a non S lightly optioned can be had for mid 40s.

I had a w204 coupe (w/ P31 package), the only thing I miss is the exhaust sound but the w205 c63s still sound good with the AMG performance exhaust!
I now owned a w205 c63s coupe and I love it much more. The technology is so much better (i.e rear view camera with lines, 360 cam, etc) and the interior (carbon fiber, seats and etc) is gorgeous! The only thing I didn't like about the coupe were the two bumper guards located at the rear bumper for US spec. I had these removed as the first mods.
I would get a c63s coupe if you are not on a limited budget.
