Radiator Block Off Plate Group Buy
Hello,
I am trying to get a group buy started for an 1/8 inch aerospace carbon fiber radiator block off plate for facelift W204 C63 (not sure about pre-facelift fitment yet). Like the one discussed in this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...r-cool-10.html. If you are interested it will be $425+shipping for 1-5 people, $375+shipping for 5-10 people, and $350+shipping for 10+ people. If you have any questions feel free to comment them or send me a private message. Bellow are pictures of it installed on a members car. (I am not a vendor, just a member).
Thanks,
Ajay

Why not just buy a sheet and make it yourself? The dimensions/measurements are all included in the link you posted and the sheet is like less than $150.

Show me where you can buy an aerospace carbon fiber sheet for less than $150. It has to be at least 30 inches x 8 inches and thickness of 1/8 of an inch. It gives you all the dimensions but not the angles and won't be precisely cut unless you have an expensive machine.

Just use a piece of cardboard to get the angles right before you cut into the sheet.

I just did this. I was lazy enough to go to Tap Plastic to have them cut from my spec (price was really reasonable). They even gave me the template if I wanted to make more. I didn't use the fancy CF since I wanted it to look like part of the engine bay. Thick ABS plastic does the job just as well.

Lol. Don’t want to shït on this thread, but you really don’t need “aerospace grade” carbon fiber for this. That’s funny.
While I’m sure this is nice, Rockwest Composites or DragonPlate both make fine carbon fiber sheets at about 1/4 that price. I used 1.7mm and it’s the perfect thickness IMHO.
Cutting it is an issue. It’s time consuming, messy and fairly dangerous with all the carbon fiber dust you’ll create in the process. But for budget-minded or DIYers with some cutting tools and patience, it’s not hard to make.
Just my 0.02. Good luck all.

Just going to quote some comments from the previous post. Should say enough about pricing and material.
"Takes $100 worth of material (less if you use plastic) and a few hours to get the fit right, and makes a massive difference. Cheap and effective, I like it." - BLKTROKT
"Prior to this $60 project my water temp ran around 200-205 at idle and at steady 70mph it would dance between 220-225...." - jptaylor
"I want to say somewhere between $100-200, maybe even $250 on the higher end?" - INS1GNIA
"We were figuring around the 200 range the materials are not cheap." - Asher4799 (forum member that was willing to produce them)
"He is doing a laminate with two layers of carbon on the top and bottom sides, it will also be going to a middle layer that is a fiberglass box weave but that is not in yet" - Asher4799 (forum member that was willing to produce them)

And don’t forget the “anti lift plate” that goes around the radiator support and is secured by hose clamps on either side. I didn’t see that in the pics above. If you have it wedged into the space behind the grille that should be enough, but it’s cheap insurance.

Thank you for all the comments. As said in the original post I am not a vendor. I found this product and was interested in it so I started a group buy to offer it to others at a discounted price. I currently have 3 people interested and another 3 if it is a direct fit for preface lift models. The best price is $350+ shipping if I can get 10 or more people.

Yeah that’s my terrible drawing. Some of the measurements are off. All you really need is a long piece of cardboard, some scissors and patience.

I have been checking on this thing and i fond the stock intake shroud does a similar job. I have checked the overall heatness in the engine bay and in the area of the front of the radiator. The front of the radiator isnt all that hot.
Why not oil cooler or header blanket where it gets most of the heat?

Stock intake shroud is insufficient. Evidenced by people seeing a big difference with adding the block off plate while also keeping the stock shroud. A big part of the issue is the hot air getting into the air intake, which is part of the shroud, which does nothing to prevent heat from entering the air intakes.
