Question 2019 G63 "Increased top speed" +$2200 option

Limited 137 mph top speed can be increased to 149 mph...

-does anyone think this also affects the acceleration? (I prefer acceleration over top speed)
-can this be added later at dealer?
-hopefully RENNtech ecu may provide this in future...

I don’t think it has impact on acceleration.

Probably not as its just a simple tune to the ECU that programmatically stops the car from exceeding 137mph. Much in the same way that the new ECU probably limits the top speed at 149mph. If there were low end gains they would report it. This seems an entirely large waste of funds. There will be after market ECU mods that most likely remove both the upper limit and increase overall acceleration times if this is important to you. Few rumors around that they will release a G63s that may include a tune that slightly increases low end acceleration and top end speed. Candidly, seeing the G63 launch videos shows the G under pretty extreme launch with the entire front end lifting up and back from the torque. Look forward to trying this myself and raising a few eyebrows along the way; but don't think you can squeeze much more out of the acceleration of this thing. Reports of sub 4.0 0-60mph already are pretty impressive. And I'd say moving at 137, let alone 149mph is downright unsafe for these cars in almost anything but a remote airfield with no other obstructions. Look forward to watching someone test these upper limits but zero chance I would take it there. Plenty of other cars and situations where those kinds of speeds can be obtained in a more controlled manner.

No more MB:(
I couldn't imagine driving a G that fast. The aerodynamics are just not there. Must be loud and very turbulent. I took mine to 100 and it felt every bit of it.

A gaggle of MB's
I guess everybody "missed" the original thread on this ... this option (1) changes Tire set to 149mph rated (2) changes ECU speed limit to 149mph..... has nothing to do with hp or tune

My 2019 G63 is spec’d-out with the speed delimiter option. Once my car arrives and it’s actually in my hands (ordered/deposit paid Oct 2018, expected arrival Sept/Oct 2019), I will report-out on whatever I can determine about this option. I’m hoping my G63 will be accompanied by some sort of paperwork describing what is incuded in this option, but trust me, I’m not holding my breath. My dealer doesn’t know any specific details about this option, other than it’s top speed is increased to 149 mph. I don’t intend to ever drive faster than the posted speed limit on any public roadway, that’s for sure. But, at some point in the future, it might be fun to hire an experienced, top notch professional race car driver, and I will ride along as a passenger in my car (in the front passenger seat) with him/her at an appropriate race course. Will grab my GoPro, if/when I do this.

Changing the ECU speed limit is a modification to the code. Call it a tune, or not. Semantics. The site is a conversation not a FAQ. And with regional variances and random rumors of this option coming with the CF Engine Cover has obviously created some confusion. Personally, I enjoy the dialog and hearing others perspectives, or opinions, and what might be causing their confusion, or my own confusion.

Yup, right now it’s 100% pure guessing and complete Internet speculation, until the first one of us actually gets our hands on our G63 equipped with the delimiter option, and can report on our actual emprical findings.

I have the option. No additional literature provided in manual or AMG supplement manual.
Definitely dont have the CF engine cover

OK, cool. What tires did it come with? Are they All Season? Do you have the 22 inch wheels?

22" all season Pirelli Scorpion Zero ASIMMETRICO. All the DE1's I have seen have Goodyears F1 which I believe is strictly a summer tire.
No clue if the Pirellis are tied into the option

So, the operative question is: Does the regular G63 come equipped with All Season tires, or strictly Summer rubber? If it’s the latter, given where I live (just got dumped on with 2 feet of snow a week or so ago at my house, up at a 1,200 ft of elevation in the foothills of the Cascade mountain range), I’d have to immediately ****kan the OEM G63 summers, and then have to spend well north of $2k to acquire a set of four All Season radial tires anyways. I have no intention of trying to sell used tires on Craig’s list. So, the extra $2200 for the delimiter option now seems like I’m getting the tune essentially for free, if the tire situation is as it appears to be. Yahoo! Of course, I also have a nice Jeep Rubicon Wrangler for navigating whilst the snow is really deep, before the streets get plowed, so no worries. Just wish I could buy the new G350d, and put a real set of studded snow blowers on her, but I guess that just ain’t meant to be. Sigh...

The extra $2200 is the warranty cost to replace the rear axle differential in the event someone is insane enough to drive their G wagon at 149 MPh. Some of it is also budgeted to cover the gap insurance on the financing of the car since it is most likely the owner will not be around to continue paying for the car.

I don’t think it’s that complicated..adding 12mph would do that kind of w&t to the amg vehicle, I don’t think so

Agreed. If a mere +12mph were to actually damage the rear diff, this would say there is insufficient headroom in the design. I’m not going to lose any sleep over worrying about this factory tune causing any sort of increased w&t issues. It’s all good!

Still wondering if anyone can confirm the regular G63 ships with summer only tires, whereas the G63 with delimiter tune ships with high speed all season radials?

JetRanger, did you ever find out if the delimiter ships with high speed all seasons?

My 22" Pirelli Scorpion Zero ASIMMETRICO are NOT all season, minor sizes have it stamped on the side wall but my 22" DON'T.

Red face

...believe me, they might be BUT definitely NOT on the 22" size.

I live in Italy where from November 15th to April 15th, it is mandatory Winter tyres (all season are also allowed) OR chains on board. Scorpion Zero in sizes smaller than 22" have the writing "All Season - M+S" on the wall of the tyres (and this is what counts for the police as well as for the Insurance Companies), BUT you can't find that stamp on the 22".
