GTS Right Cooler Protective Screen Missing
I saw another thread regarding lack of protective cooler screens on 2018 GTx. I just checked mine and there is a screen on the passenger side but not on driver side! Very odd that although the coolers are the same shape/size, one is missing the screen.
I am taking the car to MB dealer for gas smell issue next week. I will try to get them to hopefully put one it for free on the other side. I will let you guys know how that goes.
The 2nd picture is from my Huracan left heat exchanger after 1,300 miles and only one track day. The dings are even more pronounced due to the black color of the cooler. Lambos always have had angled honeycomb screens on the heat exchangers, I guess someone decided they are not necessary and dropped them from the new models, What are these car manufacturers thinking!

I visited MB dealer yesterday regarding gas/burnt oil smell and I also discussed the missing screen on the driver side. They ordered parts to replace hoses around the dry sump holding tank to fix the fume issue and said they will get back to me on the missing screen. I will keep you guys posted.

If you look at my earlier post there are pictures of the process. Labor is around 4 hours to R&R the bumper assembly without removing the lights.
I recommend you guys strongly consider having the entire disassembled area including the cooler filters vaccumed while it is apart.
Also, if you haven’t already, have the front bumper wrapped in XPEL Film.
Regards
Jerry

You may have seen that my local dealership had been given the OK from MB Corporate to place the heat exchanger screens on my GT R for free, as long as I purchase the screens themselves.

Labor is about 4 hours. Be sure to ask them to vaccum the gravel and dirt out of the filters and interior areas.
Best regards

weve seen examples of this same issue in the US GT63s’ at the dealers. Passenger side present and driver’s side missing. We can figure out the reason for it yet. I have seen UK GT63s having both as well as the GT63 at the AMG academy.

FWIW: Here’s a picture of a G63 at the Mercedes Display at Amelia Island last weekend. Both screens are in.

So I got an email from service manager at local MB dealership in response to my concern of only the passenger side cooler having protective screen. It says: "I don’t believe anything is missing. Sorry to say but there is nothing that protects those coolers in the front. They are of different construction though. I took pictures of a GTS on our showroom and looked it up at our parts counter."
My response to him was: "These heat exchangers are of same shape, size, location and general functionality. I understand that you may be limited in terms of what you can do at your dealership level. Is there someone in MB USA I can talk to?"
I am going there tomorrow to drop off my GTS for fume issue. I will push this as high as I have to and will keep you posted.

The dealer may have to expense the cost and get a refund from Germany.

N-4Speed: I agree with Jerry 100%. I sent an email to my SA that I’ve known for years, mentioning the vulnerability of the heat exchangers and the facts that my GT R did not come with them standard but that new ones were showing up with them, and that I have ‘friends’ on-line who had had the screens placed free of charge by MB USA. I then asked my SA if he could enquire as to whether I would be able to get the same treatment. Took about two weeks but MB did give the go ahead to my SA. In fact I’m heading over to order the screens here in about an hour.

At the AMG Academy a couple of weeks ago, the '18 GTSs and GTRs were running without screens. But the GT 63s on display had them on both sides. (Off topic, but it looked way better live than I expected from photos.) Here is a not so good pic. (Also off topic, the new G wagon was pretty great too.)

Thanks Jerry! I am working with the service manager and I think he will get the driver side screen installed at no cost. I gave him the part number and he said it was helpful to have it. He asked me to give me few more days, I think he is working with MB USA. They are a reputable MB dealer and he has already resolved the gas/burnt oil smell I was having with the GTS.

Show him my pictures on the site here and the part number.
There is a documented MB procedure for R&R ing the front bumper.
Remember to request on the service ticket that they vaccum out the excess dirt and gravel on the cooler screens and in the area behind the bumper.
Good Luck
Jerry

Just dropped the car off to get the screens installed. Christ those tiny fins on the two heat exchangers had taken a beating in 3500 miles. I sprayed them off as much as possible before taking the car over. There was absolutely no evidence of any major, or frankly minor, impacts but the number of the fins that had been bent was staggering.
Again the labour is being covered by MBUSA and I’m buying the screens. Also my dealer gave me a loaner to use for the time they have my car. Anyone without these screens ought to ask their SA about getting them installed gratis. Remember: the ‘carrot’ always works better than the ‘stick’! lol

You should get it back by tomorrow afternoon.
You only had to buy 1 screen right?
NAG, NAG - Did you remember to add the request to vacuum all of the dirt and gravel out of the area and off of the filter screens.
Regards
Jerry.

I should be picking the car up late afternoon today after work.
I had to purchase both screens.
I cleaned off the radiators very well before I drove the car to the dealership but also asked them to remember to clean out any other debris they saw whilst the bumper cover was off.

I’m unfortunately far too honest to be able to run for political office, Jerry! lol

Lol! In fact I do, Jerry. It actually looks pretty damn cool with the screens installed IMHO.
Here’s where it gets weird: my dealership was given the OK by MB to install the screens and that MB USA would cover the labour costs. My invoice even states at the top that customer will pay for parts; MB will cover labour. Well when I picked up the car my SA told me MB decided NOT to cover the labour costs, so he was having the service dept do it for me since that was what he had been told/promised me. I was really appreciative that he stepped up for me, but was pissed off that he was having to eat the labour costs. To help him make up for the loss, I’m going to take the car over to him to have the brake fluid flushed and at least the rear brake pads replaced, instead of my normal independent ‘speed’ shop.

Enjoy your screens and send a nice thank you to you dealer. Good to see a dealer step up to cover something that should have come with this car.
