Cup Holder Issue

The spring popped out of the pressure pin on my cup holder. Can anyone tell me how this is positioned inside the cup holder?

Carefully unclip cover with wedge (see attachment points in photo) to expose springs beneath.

Thanks that helps. I started removing the cover but can't figure out how to remove the top switch. The top switch housing will not allow the cover to be removed. I don't see any screws. Is the top switch housing attached to the cover or does it unclip like the cover? I would like to get some input before I started forcing things. Thanks for all the help.

This article helped me when I needed to replace the housing for the top switch.
Be prepared for a frustrating time on this.

Oh, and I realize the article technically is for a C-class, but it’s almost the same.

Thanks for the article. It helps, but I am perplexed by one picture . Maybe this is different from the E-class, but how is the top switch housing attached to the cover? It looks like there is a screw under the top switch housing, but how does one get to it? The picture looks like the switch housing is on a hinge, but mine is clearly not.

Oh, correct.
You first have to use a wedge to separate the top section, then unscrew from the bottom.
If I recall, there are actually three screws.

The attached is probably where to also start. But it was only so helpful to me, and the article on pelican filled in the gaps for me.

So I read the pdf and it did help, but there is good news and bad news. I fixed the cup holder, but in doing so the ribbon connection to the comand switch pulled loose. I am going to try and remove the entire comand switch assembly tomorrow. It appears the convertible is a bit different, due to the top switch, so I'm kind of shooting in the dark. I wasn't able to free the ribbon wire that goes from the comand switch up to the shift area, which is why it probably pulled loose.. Hopefully, I can remove the comand switch assembly and ribbon wire and solder the connections. Thanks for everyone's help.

So I finally got everything working and back together. Due to being a cabriolet it was considerably more complex. For those that need to remove the comand knob on a cabriolet, there are 4 screws on the underside of the convertible top housing that need to be removed before the trim piece around the comand knob and cup holders can be removed. To do this, the top part of the center console needs to be removed. I have enclosed a picture of the 4 additional screws on a cabriolet. Thanks for everyone's help.
