S550 m156 swap

I have a 2008 s550 shell sitting in my shop and have an m156 is good condition just sitting there i was thinking of using for a buggy but now i am considering this. I found a tranny for 2k local to me. My question is would this drop right in considering the mounts look similar if not the same? What criticism or problem do you have/see? Should i be a dumbass and do it?! Haha

If it was me I would not do it. Projects are fun, but in this case there are many differences. AMGs have different brakes, suspension, cooling, and other major components. It just seems like an expensive headache. But that is just my opinion

Fair enough. My shop specializes in mercedes we even have a few donor cars one of which the m156 i have came out of. Regardless id upgrade to brembos and coilover suspension. Cooling components are all with the engine. What i would need to source is ecu, tcu, and wiring harness all of which i could get at a damn good prices new/used condition. Either way expense is the last thing im worried about, im more concerned with with any serious complications anyone might see that im missing. This is more for fun but dont want to get halfway through only to hit a major road block and be mad about it. I like having a full scope of things before i start a project.

Dont know if this is still useful for you but it's the same layout for the s63 (M156) and the S550 (m273) both before prefacelift. It should be just a few wiring differences that could take forever to trace but other than wiring and tuning you can probably run a m156 engine with a 7g tronic awd transmission, Exhaust systems would be slightly different as the m156 manifold location is slightly different from the m273 one is more staggered other is just diagonal lines. Id say if you still have the chassis and engine and have a **** ton of free time and dedication this would make an amazing project and sleeper although with all the time and effort you could buy a s63.
