Just got my 2019 4matic E450 Cab, drivers seat belt doesn’t retract. Took it in for service and they need to order a new assembly from Germany. Anyone else having seatbelt problems? Wondering how long it will take to finally get the part.

Does it not retract at all or just doesn't retract and tighten after you've put on the seatbelt?

It doesn't retract all of the way. Kind of just hangs limp. It tightens when I put the belt on.

Sounds like the mechanism is defective.

Been told by the dealer that the part is back ordered from Germany, no ETA. A little annoyed that this defect was missed on a brand new 80K+ car which took months to get (ordered it the way I wanted it). Thought they did quality checks at the factory, at the VPC and at the dealer.

I'm sorry to hear that. Stuff like this can happen on any car. My E450's trunk mechanism suddenly stopped working last weekend but luckily my dealer had replacement parts in stock and was able to fix my car in a day.

I had same thing on 2016 E400 cabrio and didn't do anything about it. But yeah, it is really annoying.

Part has arrived and repair is complete. Everything seems to work just fine. A little annoying but if this is the only issue with the car than I’ll be happy. Now if it ever stops raining in the northeast I’ll be able to really enjoy the car.

Glad you got it fixed. My passenger side seatbelt wouldn't retract completely and as a result someone accidentally closed the door and the belt buckle got jammed in the door jam so that the door was stuck 3/4 closed and would not open. The dealer managed to get it open with no damage. I asked if it was a known problem and they lied and said it wasn't.

According to my dealer this wasn't a known/common problem. They tried to first realign it and determined that a new seatbelt assembly was needed. They ordered the part (from Germany) which took a 2-3 weeks. Now that the new part is installed it works perfectly. Hope you have the same result.
