Unhappy HELP With Rear SAM :(

Hey guys,

I need some help please to fix a problem with my car.

So, the usual story, water got into my Rear SAM, it wasn't such a bad damage done to it, I cleaned it, but it's still dead.

Now, my car is a 2006 model with retrofit LEDs OEM taillights.

My VIN is WDC1641221A179029 and the defective Rear SAM unit has this code: A1645401801

I can't find an exact match of my SAM code, and I was wondering if someone could tell me if other codes might work?

Thank you in advanced.

Before you buy anything, did you open up the rear SAM by removing the plastic covers and did you remove the black towers to clean the corrosion under them. Watch the two videos. Use an old toothbrush and Electronic Contact Cleaner to remove the corrosion.

Yes, I know the videos. I did just that. My circuit board had a very small portion in one corner with corrosion. Took it to an electrician and all the circuits are fine, none affected. We even clean it in a special ultrasound bathtub. Didn't worked for me.

Your old part number for the rear SAM does not show up in M/B parts list. M/B EPC is setup for USA version only. This might mean that it has been replaced with another number but it does not show it.

What is the problem?

What feature is not working?

Did you erase all codes with a scanner?

Car is from Europe, maybe that's why.

So, these are the functions that I lost:

Electric seats adj., Remote Key Lock/Unlock, Automatic rear tailgate not working, no taillights, only the fog lights work when brake pedal is pressed, diesel level indicator not working, SRS Fault.

STAR Diag says no communication with Rear Sam.

Last night I found a rear SAM with the exact code as mine and I've order it. Let's hope for the best.

Thank you.

You now have to order both tail lamp seals to prevent future water entry. The present seals must be remove from the tail lamp and the new ones must be attached to the body opening..

Yes, already did that last week. The new ones seem thicker. Thank you.

PS. The old ones had the glue side on the taillights and I don't think that was the right way. I put the new set with the glue side on the chassis!

Vgood that you changed the seals. And I wish you luck on the used SAM.

Hello,

How did you get on with the replacement SAM as I have the same problems as you, and have found an exact OEM Match on eBay (they even offer to set it up if I supply the VIN number).

Hi,

I bought from eBay an exact match of my Rear SAM and everything was back to normal after that. I just needed to code the rear lights for Europe.
