I own a 2009 S600 that had a whining noise coming from the front right, and also a 2008 CL550 that had the same noise. In both cases it was remedied by replacing the pulsation damper.
A friend of mine has a 2007 SL55. He asked me to drive it to see if it sounded the same. It’s a little hard to tell since the engine sounds so different from mine, but I thought it could be the same.
After researching the part for the SL, it looks nothing like the one that fit both of my cars. Does anyone have any insight?

It has been stated on a German forum that a faulty pulsation dampener can be sussed by observing the hydraulic pressure produced by the ABC pump. If there is any fluctuation, replace the dampener.

Put a long screwdriver to the pulsation dampener and use it as a stethoscope. On 07 SL55s, it's right on the ABC pump in the engine bay. You will notice if the loud noise is coming from there.
