Not normal for that motor. sounds like top end starved of oil for first few seconds. Oil level good?
Not sure what they could have done for $6000? Replaced the motor? You have a sheet of what they did?
I would try a different dealer.

I'd take it to another dealer still. From paperwork they did a lot of inspecting and replaced the cam adjusters ($1,400ish in parts) plus labor @145/hr i could see maybe $3500 in the two visits unless im missing something that they replaced.
But them saying the noise is normal if they are hearing whats in the video is not ok. Have them start up a C43/GLC43 with you and note that noise doesnt exist.
Its still under warranty lucky, but this is not something ive heard of before on this motor. Sorry cant be of more help. Report back when they finally find the cause and fix it.

From the 4s mark to 7s mark in the above video the motor sounds like a diesel motor idling. I have the same motor and have never hear that loud of knocking noise at cold startup. yes the injectors tick and the fuel pumps are noisy but not oil starvation sound.

first time i brought the car in for this noise they told me they found a whole lot of gas in my oil and i was driving like that for a few thousand miles. they did all this work and noise only is getting worse. only have had the car for 6 months

yes made the noise not as bad tho. and oil use to do it when the car was warm but shut off for about a half hour then turned back on. now it does it every time the car has been sitting for atleast 30 min or cold start

i’m hoping for them to put a motor in it this next time. i’m gonna tell them i don’t want the car back until this noise is gone. who knows all this money they put into it already they might by the car out and have me buy a new c43...very aggravating since my car sits at mercedes for atleast 2 weeks everytime

weird that all that work did not resolve this issue. I would assume something faulty with head gasket and valve train (due to the fault codes and parts replaced). But if that were the issue this problem should be resolved.
I would also assume that the new parts installed may take some time to break in and the noise to diminish over 500 or so miles but if it's getting worse as you drive I'd be concerned some of the repair work was not performed correctly.

My 2 cents. Get someone from MB Corporate involved. You should not be adversely affected financially by this issue if you need to trade it in. I would push the dealership principal and Mercedes corporate to fix the car or take it back. You’ve been patient enough if they actually swapped out all of the parts they said they did, the are either guessing or they likely know they can’t fix the car.

good morning guys, dropped the car off to mercedes on tuesday. mercedes said they couldn’t duplicate the sound. i went there and i duplicated it for them and showed them the noise. i has my service advisor technician and the shop foreman out there when i duplicated the sound. they are now going to go in to further diagnostics. they said they will be opening a ptss claim with mercedes corporate. so now i’m waiting to hear from them on what they plan on doing. very aggravating hopefully it’s a speedy process but i. d.o.n.t think it will be. i made it clear to them that i will not drive that car off the lot until it’s fixed. they said they’ve never heard that noise for this engine. any have a clue what you think they’ll end up doing with it?

seems like your it’s 10x worse. the dealers did all my cam shaft sprockets and noise only got worse. my car is still in the dealership has been there for 4 weeks. i’ve spoke to mercedes corporate the techs at the dealer are communicating with engineers of mercedes going back and forth. mercedes gave them the okay to pull bottom half of the motor out and “inspect” it. i still got my fingers crossed they throw a new motor in it. but as of right now i’m just playing the waiting game.

Mercedes said they don't know what it is they need to start with 15 hour of labour and they still might not _ know" what's it is. I only had this car for 6 months as welll

I am a new owner of a 30k mile c450. If it sounded like that, 1.I would have never bought it. 2. It would be at the dealer for diagnosis and repair, pronto. I owned an e39 M5 for six years and it sounded somewhat like this. It usually resulted in the timing chain guides being replaced. I am not that familiar with the Benz engines, but have owned M cars, Audi S cars, CTS-V cars, and noises like this are typically precursors to repairs, not as a result of being repaired..no way, no how...find a new dealer, drop the car off in the morning, let it sit all day, then get the service manager come out later in the day and start the car for him cold.
