C63 doesnt sound as good?

Hi. I just got a 2019 C63. For some reason, the exhaust (even with the performance exhaust) doesn't sound as loud as expected. Any ideas?

Welcome to the club of pissed off facelift owners. There are a couple of threads on here and in AMG lounge on this top.

The volume is fine, I'd prefer louder,, with the flaps open but mine doesn't pop/bang. Not at all what I expected and nothing like the demo cars.

Disagree. Volume is not fine. The best part about the car (sound-wise) is the engine start up. Its so loud and mean sounding. And then after a minute it quiets down and basically quiet. Like you hear it when youre at a red light if youre outside, but when youre riding and pressing the gas, its nothing that crazy that im paying for a v8 c63 !

First performance car? You just described exactly how cold starts work.

Anyways, try standing behind the car while someone else revs/drives it. The car’s insulated pretty well and I was surprised when I heard it from the outside. Volume for stock is perfectly fine imo.

I never said anything about a cold start. I sAid when you start the car. That includes turning the car on then off and then starting it again as an example. Second, all windows open, sunroof open. Same result. Not that loud as expected

Do agree that the car should be much louder when pushed with the flaps open.

Drop the rear seats and cruise around. Easily 2x as loud.

If you do the emotion start without turning on the flaps first, the exhaust will quieten back down depending on which mode you're in.

I'm still breaking my car in, but if i turn on the exhaust before doing the emotion start, the exhaust volume seems to hold after the start up revving. If I don't turn on the exhaust before starting, the volume will drop back down to comfort volume levels.

Doesn't the 2019 plus come with synthetic sound through the speakers? Is there a way to adjust that that would help?

It appears the facelift is quieter, and I would not be pleased about that either.

<Big Smile> I do this on track days ... you know, to lower the center of gravity for better handling ... yeah, that's it. #;-)

It's not just louder, but you hear more of the nuanced tones/sounds. The sound is truly glorious when blasting around a track. Thus far, I've not been able to capture the sound (for videos) in a way that accurately represents being there (but I'll keep trying).

I turn the car on and then quickly hit the exhaust flaps on. But regardless, it wont make the exhaust louder when cruising/full-throttling it.

well - the seats probably act as a minor strut brace so... you might be losing some chassis rigidity

2018 C63SA Cabriolet
I was so bummed when my 2019 came in with the wrong color but I'm so happy that I bought a 2018 C63S Cabriolet because I have all the bangs, pops and crackles we've come to expect from the C63S. For whatever reason, MB in their infinite wisdom decided to soften the sound of the performance exhaust for 2019. I'm sorry for those who got a 2019 but am glad I have my 2018.

I’m in the UK. Only on 300 miles in my 2019 (held back until PPF’d but will use in anger now). In comfort mode it does not pop and crackle; sounds good though. In sport plus we get loads of bangs and pops. Supposed to run in on comfort mode. Role on 1,000 miles.

My partner (who is of a certain age) has renamed the emotional start as the “menopausal start”. Like a normal start only angrier.

I doubt it since each side is hindged and has a sloppy single-point clamp that's mounted on a relatively flimsy back-window deck ... hardly the kind of construction that would _add_ rigidity. In fact, I'd argue that the extra weight "higher up" with the seat-backs in their upright position could actually increase torsional flexing.

But really, the "lower center of gravity" stuff was a chuckle-point ... it's all about the glorious sound. When on the track, I also use some bungie cords to strap in the seat-backs (in their down position), just to ensure they're not banging around (and interfering with all that exhaust music).

There's definitely a difference between Comfort with the flaps open, and Sport + with the flaps open - I get plenty of noise out of mine when I mash the gas. I'm quite satisfied, and really am not looking for a car that sounds like someone dropped a handful of firecrackers into the exhaust when I let off the gas and coast.

Can someone please confirm or deny the rumor that fake engine sound is piped in to the cabin through the speakers? I've read of this with other tamed-down vehicles of other makes/models, but never from Mercedes or AMG. I'd be very disappointed if this was in fact true.

I have been told by MB sales techs and head it numerous times that AMG do not have the sound artificially piped into the car like on BMWs.
