Another Liftgate thread..

So I was looking through most of liftgate threads for hints on diagnosing my problem with my liftgate.

My issue is that after the gate is open it will not automatically close if either the red button or the door switch on the driver's door is used. The liftgate opens if the remote is used, and will open if the switch on the driver's door is used. It will also open if the handle is used on the outside of the door. I believe it to be a fault obstruction sensor or something else, anyone have similar issues and successful results?

I am kind of leaning to replacing the door lock mechanism.

I have the same issue on a 2010 GL350, I’m getting DTC 988613 - ‘Contact strip 1 for the anti-pinch protection has a malfunction. There is an open circuit.’

The only pictures I could find of the anti pinch strips were a different model, but I assume they’re in about the same location. I plan on pulling the black plastic cover off to inspect soon. I imagine strip 1 is drivers side, and strip 2 is passenger side. I will update here when I get to it.

Well I looked for those anti-pinch strips and I can't find a good slide with them.. I am thinking that maybe I need to take thnigs apart and see if I can find them.. Did you ever get your issue resolved?
