Front jack point broken

As I found that my hydraulic jack was too short to lift the front of our ML320 (2007) at the center jack point, I lifted the driver side using it and tried to lift the passenger side using the OEM jack.

Upon lifting the passenger side, the jack point started to give in. Corrosion had crept between the pad and chassis.

Is there any known good fix to this issue?

Actually, the rubber pad itself is intact.

Above the pad, there seem to be a pack of thin metal sheets which have corrosion in between. Since the pad is available as a spare, I guess the pad needs to be pried off and the metal replaced or re-welded?

You should visit a dealer with a photo of the area in question and ask them if there is a replacement for it.

I would say that's a job for a grinder and an experienced welder.

In my case it was part of the side step.

When the side steps are installed they cover the original jacking point so the side steps have their own jacking points. These jacking points can be purchased separately, not sure if left, right, front & back are the same part number, the pictures below are front right.
