2010 e350 4matic:
Hi, I got the car 2 months ago and it has some issues I can't figure out. I hope you can guide me in the right direction, but not to the MB service because I don't have that kind of money😄.
The most annoying one is a scraping/grinding noise I hear under the center console leaning to the passenger side while driving and accelerating. It's really loud at low speeds while pressing the gas pedal. The mechanic said it may be a wheel bearing, so we replaced it, but the same noise remains. He said it could be the axle, but he's not sure, so I took it to a transmission mechanic.
This new mechanic said the rear diff has a noise and if we replace it, we may fix the problem, but after replacing the rear diff, I still have the same noise (the old diff was bad, he said). So after all this time and money, the transmission mechanic says it may be the transfer case and he recommends buying and installing a used transmission because replacing just the transfer case on my transmission will be more expensive.
I feel like we're just guessing and changing random parts, and it's getting expensive for me. Any advice?

So far you have replaced a wheel bearing and rear diff at this point, not solved your problem, wasted $100's but do not want to go to the dealer who can properly diagnose and stand behind the repair. Is this your first MB? Sometimes you just need to take your medicine with these vehicles.

First, quit going to mechanics that "think" it might be this or that. A bad wheel bearing can easily be verified. A bad rear diff? Put the car on a lift, start the engine and put the car in gear. Any noise?

How many miles are on the car? What is its service history? Did you buy the car from a used car dealership or a private seller? Why did you buy this particular car?
