Serpentine Belt

2002 s500 my husband was on his way to buy a ahorter serpentine belt because the ac compressor pulley was making a lous noise and metal shavings was coming off of it. So we were going to bypass it. But on his way there the car shut down completely. Is it because of what was going on the ac compressor pulley?

An A/C compressor clutch coming apart is a clue for hubby to turn the engine OFF and don’t drive until fixed.

If the serpentine belt is unable to spin the water pump the engine will quickly overheat and die an expensive death.

Has anyone looked under the hood to see if a disintegrating belt has ripped off an important electrical connection?

The belt controls the alternator and water pump too. When your belt breaks you lose all charging and overheat quickly

hopefully it was just low voltage that killed the car and not overheating . You can’t even drive 3 minutes with a broken belt before catastrophic damage
