W214 Burmester 4D sound system
My 2024 E450 with pinnacle package, the Burmester sound system description says it has 17 Speakers including twin speakers in the driver headrest and 2 in the ceiling along with Dolby atmos. I can only count 9 speakers in my car, plus the 4D feature. Does anyone with the W214 have the twin speakers in the driver headrest and the ceiling mounted speakers?

I've been wondering the same. I'm not sure if there are speakers in the driver's head restraint but I haven't really inspected them to see. I heard that those speakers are only used for phone calls and not music but if not, why does the above description for the Burmester 4D Surround Sound System mention them.
As far as other speakers, there are apparently two sub-woofers integrated into the frame of the car. I haven't tried to count them all myself but will look and see if I can identify all 17 this weekend.

I looked in detail in the car and I can find the following..
4 speakers in front doors (2 each door)
2 speakers in rear doors (1 each door)
1 center speaker in the front dash
2 speakers on the rear dash
2 resonators in the front seats (1 each seat)
That's 11 obvious speakers. So where are the not so obvious additional 6 speakers?
The above description says there are FrontBase subwoofers integrated into the car's body structure. I've read somewhere that there are 2 of them located in the front foot wells. I could not find any sign of a speaker in the ceiling so my guess is that they are somehow integrated with the body like the front subwoofers. They say there are twin speakers in the driver's head restraint. I can't see any sign of them and I put my ear to restraint to see if I can hear sound and could not. I've heard that they are only for calls so the driver hears the voice more clearly than others in the car but I can't verify that. If so, it's odd that they would consider that part of the sound system but marketing takes all sorts of liberties when describing products. If we take their word for it that there are two in the driver's head restraint then you can count the 6 as...

2 ceiling-mounted 3D speakers
That gets you to 17 but it's a bit hard to locate those which makes me believe they are all integrated into the body and cannot be seen. The head restraint speakers may be integrated with the restraint somehow. It does make sense that some will be invisible. Otherwise, it would make the interior look gaudy with all those metal speaker grills. But, it's hard to find evidence of those additional speakers outside of the incredible sound you get while in the car. This car is by far, has the best sound system I have had in a car so far.

It does. Interesting that they are saying 21 speakers and not 17. I suspect the MB marketing team is counting the mid and tweeter in the rear doors as one speaker and the two base resonators in each seat as one each. That would account for the 4 speaker difference. Strange that a marketing team would miss an opportunity to overstate something.

I agree definitely worth it. I have had a 2024 E350 loaner car with the basic sound system and it confirmed to me the difference.

Looks like MB is counting all the speakers which include 2 in each of the 4 doors (8 total), 2 in the driver seat, 2 in the headliner, 2 in rear dash, 2 subs, and 1 in the front dash making it 17 in total. Then they count the 4 sound generators as something separate. This is the description for my car listing at the dealership that it's in route to. If you count the 4 sound generators and speakers, it's 21 speakers.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Glad to hear that the new 214 system sounds so good. I know the premium system is standard in the all terrain wagon which I’ve got on order. I’ll be comparing it against the optional 3d sound system in my 2018 S class sedan so I’m hoping but not holding my breath it’s similiar or better in sound quality. This was a 6400 dollar option in the S class for the 3 d audio system.
