20amp Starter Fuse Blowing

Hi all,

Really need some help please, I have an 07 year model 500, UK car, when I turn the ignition to position 2 the 20a starter fuse blows, things I've done so far are:

Replaced the starter.
Tested with both solenoid lead and starter relay removed.
Tested the output wire from the fuse holder to ground.

I don't know where to go from here, so any suggestions gratefully received.

I don't have the wiring diagrams in front of me, but I don't recall the starter solenoid lead as being fused. Which fuse number are you blowing.

It's fuse 43 in the box next to the battery.

That fuse is ignition coils, fuel injectors, and a few other things. F43 and F44 are Terminal 30z. They leave the fuse block on a connector towards the rear. It will have a decent sized red wire with blue tracer and another red wire with a green tracer. I think it is a 6-pin connector. Unplug that and see if you are still blowing the fuse. If the fuse is okay, check resistance to ground on the red/blue to confirm a short in the engine harness. There is another connector under the air filter housing on the left? side of the engine (left side on LH drive, not sure on RH drive). You can separate it there to isolate the short.

Thanks Mike,

I did pull the fuse assembly out yesterday, the wire from the output on 43 goes directly into the loom, not via a plug, I did a resistance test to ground and it came back clear. Could it be a different wiring diagram you are looking at? This car is known as the 550 in the US.
