GLK250 Bluetec
AD Blue nightmare

Hello. not my first post, we live in Northern Ontario, 5 hrs from a dealership. (mistake)
we had to have the 2015 GLK 250 bluetec, towed to the dealer. $1500 later, the original message of 0 starts left, left us with the option to tow it or sell it. we just purchased last January. 114,000 kms on it.
dealer change the def tank and sensor. was fine for approx 2 months. now check def light is on. love the fuel mileage on this small Benz, but certainly getting aggravated with the minor glitches. from a long long line of Toyota followers, and this besides the 'thud' of the doors closing, is certainly not worth a brand change. Time to start shopping. trouble is, try and sell this with warning messages. thanks for listening, any ideas on how to reset this, let me know please.

Sounds like you've been taking a procrastinator's approach to maintenance, if you ask me. The AdBlue messages don't just get to "0 starts remaining" without warning, you should've had plenty of time before getting there to at least try and diagnose the problem.

Additionally, if this is a Bluetec that's had the AEM work and extended warranty, it should have cost you ZERO dollars to have it fixed at the MB dealership. Did you do any research to see if your Bluetec was covered by this warranty??

Lastly, we don't need the brand bashing around here. All cars of all brands break and fail if you don't do proper maintenance and repairs. It sounds like you need to read up on the function of the AdBlue system and how to keep the fluid topped off.

I see that prior to this you also ran out of fuel, you have to watch the warnings

You should have added DEF... BEFORE the countdown got to zero!

For the record, there is not a 'x ' starts before 'no start' warning. only saying to service the adblue system. This hasnt even come close to running out of def. the fact we had to tow it when the 0 counts to no start went from 18 to 0 on it's own. Hence the def tank and sensor changed at n/c. i'm a red seal diesel / gas technician. i'm quite familiar with how it it 'supposed' to work.

LOL, OK then... We'll just gloss over all the flags you probably ignored to get to this point.

If you can actually start and drive it, I'd head straight for the same dealership that did the repairs at no charge (a detail you neglected to mention, which means it was covered by warranty) so they can continue to repair it at no charge.

If you can't start and drive it, maybe ask a friend with a pickup truck to haul it for you or rent a truck with a dolly and tow it yourself. If neither sounds doable, I guess plan on another $1500 for a real tow truck?

In EU the counter is about how many km you can drive after the Adblue system became faulty, starting from 800 and you can start the engine million times if you want, but of course it will go from 18 to 0....in exactly 18 km

With a 20$ Openport interface from AliExpress and a decent Windows laptop, you can get the counter reset even for free.
Reset doesn't mean repair, but at least you can drive to claim the warranty.
