Ride Height Sensor Purpose w/o Air Shocks

Today I noticed a broken arm on what I think is the rear Ride Height Sensor. But my ML550 does not have adjustable ride height. Do I even need this sensor? There are no warning lights and the vehicle seems to handle perfectly.
