Power wise its on par. Its more responsive, its nice and "refined".
It gets about the same MPG in the city as the V8 but on the highway I get 20 in the 3.0
I never would have swapped out my previous G wagon if I had drove this one first.
It feels like its lost its soul.
It doesnt sound bad per se, but it sounds more like a V6 sports car versus a G wagon.

2026 G550
The 2025 G550 was my first G wagon, though I drove one a little bit in 2003. I really love the inline V6, plenty of power, and responsive. If you have the AMG line package, it does sound pretty good, but I realize what you mean by losing it's soul when I drove the G63 AMG several months ago. I guess that's partly why I ordered a 2027 G63 and going to trade in my G550.... Again, I love it, but I really was blown away by the AMG and want to give it a try.

If you look at RAM, their I6 TT puts out more power than the NA V8 at 540 hp 521 ft-lbs. But then their SC V8 is putting out over 700 HP. If Mercedes keeps putting in 6 cylinders the aftermarket might start building if there is enough sold.
