Cold start behavior. 2019 E63S M177
I’ve noticed for a while on a cold start I get faint random pops accompanied by slight body twitches.. So I’ll describe a cold start procedure best I can.
On a true cold start engine starts at high RPMs and after a few seconds RPMs drop, right after this first initial drop in RPMs I notice these faint random pops and body twitches.
If I wait for the blue water temp gauge to turn gray (which we all know is just a few seconds after a cold start) and move the car forward or reverse the pops/body twitch go away. But if put it back in park after moving it just a few seconds the pops and body twitches come back.
After maybe 2 or 3 minutes the car does a second and final idle down, this idle down is soft 100 RPMs or less. If I wait for this second and true idle down the pops and body twitches fully disappear instantly.
After this the car drives completely normal. I’m not sure if the car has always behaved like this and it’s normal, maybe I’m just now paying attention and noticing this or if it’s something new..
No check engine light or stored codes. The pops don’t seem to affect the RPM needle as there is no bouncing or movement at all when they happen. Spark plugs are less than 1,000 miles old. The cars maintenance is done religiously. Always garaged in 60-70F.
I apologize for the long post. I look forward to your guys responses.
