Effect of 2026 ECU Update Recall for GTRs?

I received the attached ECU update recall (MBC Recall # 2026050004) for my GTR Pro.

QUESTION/REQUEST: Can anyone attest to the side-affects, if any, this has on such things as exhaust sound and performance (and anything else)?

In particular, the GTR's exhaust sound is one of the primary reasons I have it so, to me, altering that would be equivalent to damaging and devaluing the vehicle.

Looks like it affects more than just the GT. Looks like the M177/178 LS1, so waiting to see if I get a similar letter here in the USA eventually. FWIW, I did get an ECU update a while back after having misfires, so not sure if this fix was already included in that update. There were no side effects. It fixed the misfires and also fixed the oil level sensor giving me errant warnings about low oil levels. This one is about cold start misfires, though. My misfires happened after a canyon run with the engine hot. It wasn't the first ECU update I had. None changed anything other than fixing the issue they were supposed to fix. I know in the past some people complained about no more pops after an ECU update and such. I was never sure if that was due to incompetence by the techs or what, but I never had a similar issue. Updates consistently improved the car.

Thanks, superswiss, that's definitely encouraging. I've never noticed any cold-start misfires, and I always wait for the fast idle to subside before driving, so it likely isn't required but undoubtedly will get done at next dealer visit, regardless of my wishes. I do expect my dealer would "fight for me" if there were unwanted side effects but, generally, I "have faith" ... though I will capture some controlled sound-pressure level data before and after ... the geek in me makes me do it! #;-))

My '19 GT R isn't part of this campaign. Strange.

Maybe your dealer is sharper with the side effects, my sadly wasn't when they did an update years ago w/o my permission.

That said, if it's not mandatory, I'd leave it unless you're really experiencing the symptoms.

Agreed and will request exactly that but the expectation is that anything having to do with emissions will be mandatory.

Just realized you're in Canada. Was looking for that NHTSA ID in your letter.

Mine didn't show up anything for NHTSA either. Maybe it's just a Canada thing? But would imagine it should cover NA though hopefully not!
