Start with Sheet 231.1 in the gear oils section at https://operatingfluids.mercedes-benz.com/. That will refer you to another Sheet with gear oils approved for your particular vehicle. Alternately, online retailers -- FCPEuro, Autohausaz, Pelicanparts, etc.-- will provide suitable gear oils when you enter your vehicle profile.

Yeah, I have done that but is kind of confusing to me. Some retailer offer products that are not listed ad some other listed products on MB sheets are no where to be found on retailers.

Im looking for front and rear differential fluids as well as transfer case. Some states to use the same blue fluid than transmission, and other state to use the old red one which is thicker I think and may be better for a 90K+ miles transfer case.

Any practical recomendations are welcome.

No question it's confusing. Your best bet is to call FCPEuro and talk to a tech rep. They're quite knowledgeable on gear boxes and fluids. They might be able to lookup your VIN and find out exactly what your drive-train setup is, and then tell you what your fluid choices are. When in doubt., go with the MB fluids.

What is your vin? I dont have a 166. I'm even confused why it says X166 above, isnt it a W166? Then again the GLK is the X204.

I did a little searching around but got tired of cutting and pasting so its not complete.

I'm unsure if you have the normal "light alloy" rear diff.

Transfer case fluid is easy enough. MB spec 236.12. Shell ATF 134 replaces all 236.12 fluids. I used this in my 722.9 transmission since it was around $100 for 12 quarts.

Rear diff i'm either seeing 235.7 OR 239.71. Either way the Febi 75W85 meets both these specs. I used this Febi gear oil in my W204 front and rear differentials.

Front is where i'm a little confused. I come up with spec 235.75 and when I look at that spec its saying Fuchs TITAN SINTOPOID FE 75W-85. But when i read the info on that gear oil I dont see the spec actually listed on the bottle.

Then I looked on the website where I bought the febi gear oil along with a few other parts for my transmission service and they have a kit for the W166.

Here is a link to that website: https://www.idparts.com/differential...t-p-14738.html

Its idparts.com if the link doesnt work. The site caters to diesel vehicles but obviously things like fluids are the same. I buy from them because they are the next town over and have free order pickup.

Forgot to mention they have the MB 236.12 fluid for a decent price also.
