"07 SL550 Red Battery Light and Cannot Start
Yesterday I had trouble getting the car into P. I shut it down, and the next day it started in neutral when I put the key in the ignition and cranked it(Normally, I start it with the power start button on the shifter). I drove to my destination and had a helluva time getting my key out of the ignition. After playing with the shifter, it finally came out. I went to restart the car and got a red battery light. No ignition sound at all. BTW, I can now get gear into park and move through all gears, no problem. I checked both batteries. Front measures 13.5, and rear 12.05. Lights, windows and radio work just fine. I disconnected the batteries (Rear neg, front neg, rear pos then front pos). Left them off for a few minutes, then reconnected the front and then the rear. Still a red battery light and no ignition.
I have a Foxwell diagnostic (NT710), which I will plug into the car tomorrow after I recharge and update the firmware.
ANY suggestions? Oh, and the car is on the 4th fl of a parking garage!! My Indie mechanic was not helpful at all. He referred to something on the side of the transmission that is called a neutral safety?? Only the dealer can replace it.
