Removing the W465 glove box

Hopefully none of you need to go down this journey, but I could not find anything on the internet describing this process, so I thought I'd share in case somebody finds us from google, or if you are interested in how our vehicles are put together.

I scratched the leather glove box (kid had a keychain on their backpack and as I pulled it out from the floor after picking it up, it scratched the leather) a few weeks ago and was trying to figure out the best way to fix it.

Here were my options:
-Order a replacement part from a Mercedes dealer for around $1,200 that was backordered with no ETA
-Use a leather repair place that could mitigate it but leave a scar for $500
-Replace the leather for $380 through a local auto interior repair specialist

Here are the steps to remove the glove box:
-Open glovebox and remove all contents
-There are four Torx T20 screws holding it in place--two at the top beside the interior light and two in the lower corners
-At this point the glovebox is loose but won't come out (don't force it), you'll need to pop out the top interior light from the right to release the clip, freeing up the glovebox.
-Disconnect the light from the harness and disconnect the harness at the rear of the glovebox (wire hanging in the middle of the open space)

I got stuck where the glove box was loose but I could not remove it. I have a very good relationship with the local dealer (bought my 2022, both 2024's, and 2025 from there), so their service department helped me figure it out for free.

To put the glovebox back, you'll need to line up the two horizontal wedges at the top of the rear and the two circular dots at the top of the front. I've placed arrows on these. Before you seat the glovebox, clip the interior light to the harness but keep it loose. Once it's seated well pop the light back in and then put the screws back.

Many thanks for the information. Great knowledge to have for those "just in cases". Thank you.

So which option of repair did you go with?

Ugh....Sorry that happened. Hope it turns out like it never happened. I've been there before, not with my G, but with a brand new Porsche GT3 I had. My date one night (keywords "one night") was wearing a studded jean jacket, it destroyed the passenger seat!!

Hard rules now, no star studded clothing, handbags or anything that can wreak havoc on a cars interior.

Good news is it looks like new to me looking at OP's images.

So sorry this happened to you! I have the same interior color and color on the dash.... My heart dropped when I saw the scratch. I am assuming you went with Option#3? Looks great! Is that the cabin air filter in your 4th Photo underneath the honeycomb looking grate? Looks pretty easy to replace if so...

Yes option 3. There’s a company out of NJ that makes aftermarket leather matched to OEM colors. The local store took my VIN to make sure it matched.

They replaced the original leather and it looks perfect to me (last picture).

It looks good as new OP from the before and after images you provided. Sorry it happened as well but looks like you did a fantastic job restoring the beauty.
