Gun Safes?

Has anyone here installed a gun safe in their GLS? I'm looking to get one for my wife when she has to travel to our lawless cities where her clients have offices.

GLS Console Safe

Why would you want to put it in a safe?

For legal reasons or to keep it from being stolen?

If I were a thief and saw that safe I would want to know whats in it. Doesnt look that hard to force open.

If its for legal reasons look up that states laws. Some a locked trunk is considered stored, some you have to keep ammo stored separate.

Obviously the best is to have it on you.

The idea is that if she or we are out and have to temporarily leave our concealed carry firearms behind ( not all spaces are legal to carry.) I’d feel more safe locking it in a console vault or similar rather than the plastic glove box.

1st, no safe is going to keep anything “safe” from a determined criminal. However, I have a safe in the trunk of each of my cars just so if I go somewhere where I cannot carry, I can lock it up and show I made a reasonable effort to secure my firearm in my vehicle.

I have one of these in each of my vehicles, just in case…

I run the securing cable through the wheel rim of my spare or the battery strap in my trunk. I have no expectation that the firearm won’t be stolen, buy it would certainly be a pain for the thief. And again, when I report it stolen to the cops, I can say it was secured in a gun safe and hopefully avoid any negligence charges. (Yes, my state is a deep blue state.)

This one sits on a back seat and attaches to lower anchors normally used for infant carriers.

Does Console Vault make one for your model car? If so, I think that is one of the better routes to go for your intended purpose. Lots of options out there, but that is probably the most secure, and tucked away. You pay a little more, but probably top notch for your purpose. That said, I think you could probably get away with something like PotatoeHeadII mentioned above - a basic table/bedside safe with cable lock secured.

Honestly, no thief is going to spend much time trying to break into a safe unless the car is being parked in a dark and exposed area overnight for prolonged accessibility. Most thieves breaking into a car are looking for easy ****** an grabs items. Hence, with your purposes being when parking and going into some place that is gun prohibitive, I think most options will work. A potential thief is not going to be in a “I have all day and privacy” environment to mess with cutting, etc…

Seriously guys? If you put your weapon under the third seats in the back of the car I promise you any run of the mill criminal is never going to find them ransacking a car. I have seen people take massive efforts to prices out of vehicles and never not once ever seen somebody take something out of between those third seats in any of my wagons or the gls. There are also those cubbies in the back of both cars in the hatch area that I come out imagine a thief would pop open to look at something. I have transported in excess of 50,000 in cash on the left side of one of my wagons behind the beer tank

To that, my biggest fear is not some criminal taking a weapon my biggest fear is the police taking a weapon illegally as they have been known to do in 50 states

If that weapon is then used in a crime, and you didn't exercise due diligence, you might be in trouble.
Owning a gun involves increased responsibility, at least for me.

LOL LOL LOL...I live in Florida. My locked vechile is MORE than enough protection to keep my rights intact. We are also now an open carry state as our Governor has read the Consitution as well as the Bill of Rights.

But, some years ago there were four cars broken into (my windows were down). Items were stolen from four other cars - one of the items was a gun safe that was pried out of the car. Nothing at all was missing from my car - nada. Plus, I did not have a broken window....BUT, I did have about $5k cash and an $11k watch...well, under the third seat in the back of my wagon......

If your goal is to NOT have something taken, dont put it where criminals will expect it to be. A lock (or a safe) only keeps honest people honest.

We have four of our medical providers are carrying firearms at all times in the clinical environment. Heck, even our public school teachers can now carry a firearm. So, traveling with a weapon and keeping it accessable is very important.

You may not agree, but the law expects due diligence in protecting a firearm. There can be repercussions if your gun is stolen from a lackadaisical storage effort.
I think being responsible is a good thing.

I agree about diligence. That is why where I live putting it out of sight in your locked car is more than enough due diligence

It really varies state to state what the state laws require. I live in a deep blue state where liberal prosecutors are just waiting for a gun owner to slip up. For me, if my gun is not on my body, it’s in the safe in my trunk. I do not carry it in my glove box or center console; it is on my body. Florida probably sees things differently than DC and the surrounding states. I can see why you play it safe in Colorado.

The whole premise is flawed. If I leave my key in my car, it gets stolen and someone crashes into a school....my fault?

I think it depends. I have learned that the court system never is the same as shown on TV and you can never know with certainty what a jury will decide. So, remove as much liability as you can.

Console or within driver’s reach is my goal. I want the wife or myself to be able to access or temporarily lock up our weapons out of sight behind tinted glass. Rear of vehicle lock up is a no go as we would be showing our goods if anyone was looking.

The idea isn’t that the weapon would be indefinitely secure in the car, just slightly safer from smash and grabs from urban kids who have been raised without repercussions to violating laws. Thanks for the “progress”, progressives.

I appreciate the ideas.
