Comfort vs Performance Seats - Advice?

I have searched on this topic, but have a bit of a twist. If I were to order, I'd go with the performance seats. However, the car I am looking at currently has the comfort seats with heat/air and massage. Anyone regret getting the comfort seats instead of the performance seats?

Quite frankly, only you can answer if you are going to regret it. Some people don't want the performance seats, because they think they are uncomfortable, but others who want them, may not be satisfied with the standard seats, but if you never sat in the performance seats, you don't know what they are like and you may not regret getting the standard seats. Here are some thoughts to contemplate.
  • Looks: The performance seats by far look the part in a car like this. Just that alone may make you regret getting the standard seats
  • Lateral support: If you are into cornering, then the performance seats provide far superior hold, especially combined with the ability to inflate the side bolsters, so you can tailor the amount of lateral support that you desire. For example I keep mine fully deflated for comfort during normal driving, but then fully inflate them when I hit up a canyon.
  • Ventilation: The ventilation with the performance seats seems to work better, because the seats don't just have perforation in the back and the seat cushion, but also in the side bolsters, so you get more airflow around you. This is really noticeable, because when I have the side bolsters fully inflated, then they are so snug that it noticeably reduces airflow, but as soon as I deflate them, the resulting gap immediately increases the cooling effect.
  • Did I mention the looks....haha?
The biggest concern with the performance seats is comfort, which is why a lot of people shy away from them. Having a big waist will also mean that you'll potentially feel cramped and uncomfortable. Getting in and out will also take some fitness, especially given the car is low in the first place and there's a really wide sill. Sliding over the side bolster will quickly wear it out, so lifting yourself over them is paramount. Keep that in mind.

FWIW, I would have regretted not getting the performance seats. I find them extremely comfortable for my body shape. I'm 5'11"/180lbs. That's pretty much the average that these seats are designed for. I find them way more comfortable than many so-called comfort seats, because I don't have to use my back muscle to stay upright in the seat. The seat fits like a glove for me, so there's very little stress on my body compared to less supportive seats. I've driven up to 12 hours in them and felt better afterwards than driving for a shorter period in seats that cause me to slide around and having to use my muscles to stay in the seat.

Get comfort seats, especially if you intend to daily this.

Thanks for your input superswiss! I have sat in both and was going to spec the performance seats for sure. I am about your size (just a little lighter ) some they fit great. I happened upon a preowned GT55 with the exact exterior specs, including night, night + and aero.....which is hard to find. Only thing is the interior is crystal white with standard seats. Not a deal breaker, as I know I have to go with the 80/20 rule!!

Just to clarify, this will not see the track....just some daily work.

I just saw that you are located in Dallas. Having spent quite a bit of time in Dallas in a prior life, I have to say that if all you gonna do with it is daily driving, then you are not gonna get much from the performance seats. Long straight, boring flat roads and commuter traffic to and from the suburbs isn't the domain for the performance seats. Gotta take it out to some mountain and canyon roads. Bit of a shame driving this car in Dallas in the first place to be frank. DFW along with the Midwest (used to live in Chicago) are some of the most boring and numbing places I've ever driven.

Absolutely have to agree with you.....very boring roads in DFW area! When I had the Vipers we would go drive the back roads of LA and AR....some pretty decent roads in those states. After having Vipers, Lamborghini and Porsche 911, I am dallying a truck (have property and need a truck) I am ready for something fun to drive. Texas in general is not a great state to find twists, but that is what I got!!

It's pretty had to find these cars like I want it (aero package, etc) so I feel like this is a good opportunity. I tried to order one last year and the tariffs killed any "deals" at that time! Appreciate your candid input!!

I agree it is hard to find the GTs with how you want them. I have the comfort seat with vent and message and think they hug the body nicely. I was hesitant to order the performance seat without ever sitting in it.

No regrets here for having standard seats. I test drove a couple with the performance seats and just didn't like them (personal preference, and I am a bit shorter than you guys, so I found it hard to miss the bolsters getting in/out). It was actually hard to find a GT that didn't have the performance seats (I know - the look, right?). Maybe I was biased but in the past i often read comments about the performance seats being too stiff for a daily driver, which mine is.

Yeah, the performance seats may look and feel good at first, but the novelty wears off fast for a daily driver in my opinion. Just getting in and out and the comfort level sucks.

It's ultimately personal preference and seat comfort has mostly to do with your core strength, specifically your glute muscles. If you are uncomfortable in seats over time, then your core is likely too weak. The performance seats are made by Recaro Automotive, and they know how to make seats, at least they did before they went bankrupt and got rescued by Proma. These seats are from before they went bankrupt. The GT and SL are the only new models that stayed with them. The other models got newer design performance seats, which I don't like as much and I'm not sure who makes them now.

FWIW, I sit in a gaming chair at my desk most of the day. If you don't know what a gaming chair is, it's essentially a mix between a car sport seat and a desk chair. It's way firmer than even the performance seats and I cycle for sport, so if you survive 4 hours on a bicycle saddle w/o your bottom hurting for the next week, then there's no car seat that's truly uncomfortable. Granted, I don't daily drive any car, but I've done lots of long road trips and I regularly fly international sitting in an airplane seat for 12 hours. I was at the point in my mid 40s where I woke up in the morning with body ache just from sleeping and those 12 hours flights had become a bit of a torture. Most people would probably blame the mattress. I wasn't loving my sport seats in the car at the time as much anymore, either. So I decided something had to change and started to exercise and strengthen my core, instead of replacing my furniture and car. So now at age 53 I'm back to where I was when I was younger and those 12 hours flights feel like 4 hour flights. We all get older unfortunately, and it's getting harder to keep the muscles from disappearing, so it takes work to maintain them if you want a pain free life and be comfortable on whatever seat you decide to sit down.

For reference, this is my gaming chair I spend most of my day in. Not this particular one. Mine has yellow stitching to match my car interior and no AMG logo. AMG did this F1 Team Edition one in collaboration with noblechairs. I had mine already when they came out with this one, but it would have been cool.
