Seat belt buckle

Hi All, passenger seat belt got stuck today. Looks like the red centre tab on the release button got stuck over the clasp and broke off as belt was pulled out. Belt works fine, what does the centre tab do?

That red tab is just a visual indicator it pops up to show the buckle is unlatched. It doesn't affect the locking mechanism or webbing at all.
Belt still works fine, you just lost the unlocked warning flag. No safety issue.
If the button itself still presses and clicks, you're good to go. Just leave it.

thanks for the reply, yeah button works fine. I only managed to recover what appears to be part of the tab ~5mm. Is it originally longer and could have dropped down into the mechanism?
