Looking for some purchase advice
I have been building a 2 Wheel Dr. 1972 Chevrolet Blazer all done up LS three tubular suspension coil overs, etc. etc. It’s going on five years now and I’m getting impatient so I’m looking for another toy fun car
I think I have decided on most likely a 2017 SL 63 Cabriolet. I own five vehicles and four of them either have no top or our convertible. I did find one at a local Mercedes dealership and I’m going to look at it tomorrow. There is also a couple of private sales in the same area. Interestingly, they all have similar mileage, and the one of the Mercedes dealer is a little cheaper than the private sales.
is there anything I should look for or listen for or known issues to talk to people about? I’ve been reading and researching as much as I can, but I’m sure you guys will send me in the right direction. I also looked at a nice S550 Cabriolet, but I think I’d be happier with the S63?
I would really like to keep the purchase price under $70,000. For an outstanding car that checks all the boxes I could probably do $75,000. Could I maybe even get into a later model for that price? Doesn’t seem to be a ton of convertibles out there. I did see a beautiful coupe today, but I think if I purchased a coupe, I would have regrets later on
thanks
Mark

when I went to look at the car today that had the three crankshaft position sensor replacements I went and talked to their service manager. He said he has never heard of that and there must be an underlying problem somewhere. I agreed with that assessment and decided to walk from that car
I did take a look at a very nice 2017 S 63 privately owned with under 30,000 miles. Original MSRP over $200,000 and it has everything including the ceramic brake package. I actually wish this one didn’t have it, but he is firm at $75,000. I did offer him $70,000 and he declined.

If you like AMG, get AMG. Don't settle for an S550.
Also, know that these cars are S-classes first, sport second. Think big, beautiful car with a very large engine. It won't corner like a race car.
Otherwise, even at 10+ years old now, these S-classes are one of the best "full package" vehicles ever made - definitely way ahead of it's time, and an absolute bargain today.
