C300 2013

Hello All,I accidentally locked my key fob in the trunk. All the doors were locked, the sunroof was partially open, so I was able to gain access to the cabin. However, the anti-theft system has been activated, so I can't open the trunk where the key is located.

I contacted Mercedes Roadside Assistance, and they told me the vehicle would need to be towed to a dealer because roadside service providers do not have the diagnostic tool that can supposedly unlock the trunk. The dealer said they would "make an attempt" to access the trunk, which is not very reassuring given that the car is about 70 miles from the nearest dealership.

Is there any way for me to gain access to the trunk myself? The car has split-folding rear seat, but the release lever for it is located inside the trunk, so that option isn't available.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you stick something between the two folding rear seats to push the trunk emergency release button?

I dont have folding rear seats so cant check if its possible.

Thinking what I would try. Maybe boroscope to see into the trunk for the release button. metal coat hanger or similar to reach the button.

Read the Related Thread section below. It tells how to do it. The emergency release button stays lit when the trunk is closed.

There are locksmiths that can cut a door key with the VIN. IIRC, there is a lock near the license lights that uses same key for the trunk. If you can’t get to the emergency release, try searching for mobile lockout services and asking if they can do it. Not all can. We had it done on a rainy night in a similar situation. You must have had some contact with Mercedes, bought from a dealer, had an MB warranty, had service at a dealer, registered car with MBUSA. They must be able to verify you are the owner for them to release the key code.

Alternatively, if you have time and tools, since you can access the cabin, you can remove the rear seat bottom. It’s held in by 2 spring clips at the front. Then you can unbolt one of the rear seat backs and get into the trunk.
