1970 300 sel 6.3 help
I'll start with what I do. I start the car at least once a month, plan is to drive it at least monthly moving forward. I put a small amount of fuel in now and then so its mostly fresh instead of a full tank. i have other cars using this car more frequently is not realistic unless I get it to be reliable enough to drive to work every now and again. It is garaged, i have space and lots of tools, jacks, stands, basic hand tools, no specialist merc tools. I keep a battery maintainer on it. The car drops trans fluid, diff fluid, and oil slowly, plan is to check and top them up every now and then which is what my dad did in the later years. 40 years ago it was his daily.
Where do I go from here? Annual service at a specialist or can i DIY some? Do I need to attend to the diff and trans leaks or just keep topping up? What routine maintenance can and should I be doing? Everything works, the car starts first turn of the key, windows go up and down, doors lock slowly, wipers are slow but work. Air bags are about 10 years old and all inflate. Nothing major has been serviced in a good 10 years. Do the brakes and fluid need replacing due to age?
Sorry i realise my post is a bit of a ramble, I'm sure I'll get to know the car I'm just a bit lost as to where to start and want to avoid mistakes that might be obvious to people with these cars but not to me.
Thanks for any advice.
