Soft top tightening
I recently purchased a 1986 560 SL with both a hard and soft top. The soft top was replaced with a new top recently, before I bought it. I have been unable to tighten the soft top, even after watching several online videos that explain the procedure. Specifically, when I use the handles to tighten the pins on the top of the windshield, they pull the soft top down to close it, but the pins don't 'catch' or lock in place, so when I release the handles they relax back open leaving a approx 1/2" gap ... is that normal that they don't stay closed? Secondly, the pin holding down the rear center of the soft top does not fully close; I understand there always will be a slight gap when closed but this gap is more than that ... as if the large arm catches the top, but the small handle does not pull it down further. If I jiggle the back of the soft top with my hand, the back pops open. Any thoughts/suggestions on whether the front pins should stay 'closed' or why the back doesn't full catch?
