SL/R129: I get by with a little help from my friends
I guess I am not like most Mercedes owners. When I find a car I love like my 500SL, I grow so attached to it that I refuse to let any mechanic touch it. I have seen too many times mechanics break parts, partial re-assembly of cars and much worse. This will cause problems down the road causing you to have to return to the shop that caused it in the first place. Don’t get me started
My wife can’t stand the fact that I work on my car. She thinks that I should be like everyone else and drop my car off to have a professional look it over. She tells me “Mercedes owners don’t work on their own car.” My response “They do if they care about it.”
This brings me to my first problem. So I guess that is why I can’t find any manuals or CDs for the R129. Could someone please make my day and tell me there is one, cost and how to find it!!!!!!
If by chance there is someone out there with a manual could you help me out and tell me what is the ohms resistance parameters for the two ignition coils, both secondary and primary?
The right side is reading .9 for primary and 12,500 secondary.
The left side is reading .9 for primary and anywhere from 9,700 to 9,400.
Some shop told me that any secondary under 10,000 is bad….. I don’t know if I believe that, he just wants to make a sale I think.
I have not even had my baby (500sl) for over a month yet and intermittent stalling has left me on the side of the freeway for hours on end. I will not let my car be towed if I can help it. Not to mention trying to explain how I just purchased a car and now I have a car that I can’t rely on. If anyone married for over 10 years has any good advice one how to smooth that over let me know.
Thank you in advanced for any help and down the road I hope to pay it forward…

Then think about coils.
For MBs the must resource is the EPC and WIS - Electronic Part Catalogue and Workshop Information System. These are dealer only but you'll find them available on P2P networks (eMule/bit torrent) or can be bought here:

Enjoy your DIY, it's very rewarding to think that you can repair your vehicle to a far higher standard then the general MB dealer :-)
most ship from the uk but allow shipment to usa
