SL/R129: Sl(320,500?)

Hello. I have a friend who is in the market for a used R129. Problem is, he doesnt know what year is the best make/model. He told me he wanted a 500, so I said 1996 was the best bet for the money. What do you guys think?

i traded in my 96 320 with 160K on it and it was a workhorse engine...no tranny problems...just with the oem pan's that kept warping.
the only major issue i had with it was some oil got into one of the plugs and caused a check engine light...after $500 it ran great again....what i do know is you dont want the 95...so 96 or 97 on the 320..good luck
