SL/R129: High Beams don't work

High Beams don't work
I was driving the other night and switched to my high beam lights and they did not come on. I noticed one other time that they hesitated to come on. Now they don't work. The bulbs and fuses seem to be in good shape. Is there a relay involved here? Can anyone give me some information on what this might be?

It is common for this problem to be caused by a bad combination switch -- the multi-function stalk mounted to the side of the steering column. A possibility that I think is less likely is a problem with the module that monitors exterior lamps for failure. The problem can be easily pinpointed with a basic electronic multimeter and a schematic from the Mercedes WIS or Tech DVD.
