SL55 (R129) does such a beast exist?
I am new to the world of MB I have recently purchased an 05 E55 and an 05
SL65.My son came home from his mates place and said that in there garage sat an R129 SL55 do these exist in that body shape or is it badged? P.S He also told me the enginge had AMG on it. Hopefully you well knowledged members will have the answers. |
Yes, I have a Japanese magazine on the R129 chassis and it mentions the SL55. Let me see if I can get it scanned.
It has the non-supercharged V8 however, not the 496hp tire roasting V8 in the R230 SL55 :) |
it has the 210 E55 engine, i think around 349-369 hp

If you go to this German R129 Club web site and scroll down you will find that AMG produced a 65 total of the SL55 R129 between 99-01 with 354 HP on a 129.068 chassis. Please see http://72.14.203.104/translate_c?hl=...r129/daten.php

As you know beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That's probably why you own the cars that you do. I don't think that the R129 SL55 holds any special value like the SL73 with 525 HP or a 2002 SL600 Silver Arrow with only 100 made. How about a R129 Brabus SL7.3 They took a 2002 SL600 Silver Arrow from 382 HP to 585HP. Take a look at this car.

Yes they did an SL55 in the R129 before it was discontinued. They are one of the rarest ones, but it was inferior to the SL60 with the M119 that made over 400 Bhp ( more than the v12) .
The M113 3v SOHC is technically inferior and over 50 Bhp down on the SL60. Still a very rare and desirable R129 if anyone found one. |
I couldn't afford one, so I built one for myself.
It's 1 of 1 :D |

No you don't, the R129 SL55 was produced from 1999 onwards until 2002. Only 65 units were ever produced.
They had the Naturally Aspirated M113 engine in it and the car only came in the facelifted chassis model ( which included oval side view mirrors ) Your side view mirrors are pre-facelift, and you need to check your engine. Does it look like this? |
