SL600 bouncy ride!!

Hi
Can anyone help please!
I have recently purchased a 1995 SL600 (38k miles). The car is fairly mint but the rear suspension is mega bouncy! If you go over a bump it just keeps on bouncing, like being on a basket ball.
Does anyone know what this could be? I have been advised that it could be the shocks? But i am unsure as it is such low miles, is this likely?
The car has stood for some time, the previous owner, my friend, having only covered 16k since 2000. And not moving a inch in 13 months!
Would be grateful for any advice!
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum! age is a bigger factor than miles, and that may be true of more than shocks:) The 600 has a leveling and shock system. The bounce may be the only problem, but my experience would indicate a "big Picture" view may be important. Where in the world are you?

Hi
I am in UK, north of London.
The car has good history but as you say it is almost 20 years old!
The local garage believe it is shocks but they only did a simple bounce test, pushing down on rear etc. I have read about spheres?
Thank you for replying so quickly.

I am a bill payer not a mechanic, With that said, the sphere nitrogen gas system levels and adjust ride height. the springs and shocks damper the ride. Hydraulic fluid is used on my 600 and has been damaged from a "deer" strike. When repaired the ride is stable, but not too harsh. The center console switch can make the ride more race car like and not a "wife compatible" ride!
