1990 500 SL blowing #6 trunk fuse
My '90 500SL has a blown #6 (trunk light, central locking system control unit). I installed another good fuse and it instantly blew. I haven't seen any mouse-chewed or fried wires yet, but the turn signals and radio antenna don't work. I did find a few chunks of broken, crusty (once cylinder shaped) pieces laying below the antenna behind the trunk upholstery. They were crumbling and had a white powdery residue on them, like corrosion. Any ideas out there?

Ok, so I tried a third fuse and it now works without blowing. The infrared lock system now works, but the hazard flashers, turn signals and radio antenna do not. All other fuses in the car are ok.

Did you ever figure out the problem with your car? Mine has the same problem thanks.

Not yet. I decided to tackle the top cylinders first, then move on to everything else. I'd sure like to figure out this problem, though!

I had a look at mine yesterday, i found that my combination head light
switch was all broken inside "probably shorting out". I just ordered the part, when it gets here I will let you know if it fixed my problem. |
I replaced, Headlight comb switch this weekend, i have dash lights back and
License plate lights are all working. Still no signal lights, i suspect it might be comb relay. |
So, after the alternator smoked (literally) last winter, I pushed the Benz into the back corner of the shop for a while. After replacing the alternator and my new (it was new last year) defective battery, everything seemed to come back to life. Even the turn signals and wipers! I drove it under its own power today and, other than the fact that it ran terribly, it felt good. Hopefully it will start running better after I burn some fresh fuel through it.
