SL500 headlight upgrade?

hey guys, I want to upgrade to the newer headlights for the R129 SL500 but i dont want to run HID Xenons (at least not yet), is there anyway to run conventional bulbs (or the xenon colored bulbs) ? Thanks and please get back to me with any info possible.

I recently upgraded my car with new blue headlamp bulbs which while not looking the same as Xenons do improve the visibility at night. Mine are made by Philips who are a major supplier in Europe and I expect you'll be able to find the equivalent locally. They can just plug in to replace the existing ones. Also worth having, if you have the clear turn signal lamps is a bulb which is orange when on but almost invisible when off.

Is it possible to run the higher output bulbs. I think the standard bulbs for low and high beams are 45/55 watts while the higher powered bulbs can be as much as 85/100 watts for the low/high beams. Will the higher powered bulbs be an issue or can the wiring and fuse circuit handle these?

Eventually the higher end bulbs WILL damage your sockets. I just had to replace one from the previous owners decision to do the same. Run stock bulbs or be prepared to do complete upgrades.

I have a 1994 SL500 with the original glass headlights. They do an excellent job illuminating the road at night however, I do like the projector assembly's look on the car and far superior beam pattern. My question is are the Projector Headlight Assembly's Glass or that horrible plastic that turns yellow over time?
