First Benz and its a Sl600 Quick question Phone and Sport
Hi from Dallas Texas. I just bought my first Benz and I selected the Sl600 as it seemed a nice upgrade from my Porsche Boxster and I wanted a 2 seat convert. Hopefully the pics upload here. It has 57k miles and its a 1999. The VIN is WDBFA76F8XF177316. I cant find a good VIN decoder despite several threads on this great site.
It says sport on the fender so I assume that means the SL1 Sport Package? From what I read that is just a different body panel type upgrade correct? It does have the AMG wheels but not sure of size yet so it seems to be a legit sport.
Can you still use the phones in the cars or are they analog and wont work on modern networks? Is there a upgrade to make digital if thats needed?
Thanks Bill

Beautiful car. Triple black.
Why would you even want to use that phone?
Try this decoder.

Haven't posted on here in a long time since selling the car, but figure I'll chime in to answer your questions for old time's sake.
First, that's quite a beauty you picked up. Congrats! Won't handle anywhere near as crisply as your Boxster, but the power is night and day.
Your car looks to have the factory sport package, which consists of the AMG bodywork and wheels. Another way to tell is that your rear tires should be wider than the front...245/40/R18 up front and 275/35/R18 in back, if memory serves me well.
I would scrap the phone. It's ancient and probably would be more effort than it's worth to make it work. The base is held in place by a few screws. On mine I just removed the whole thing and used the storage space since that is one thing this car is limited on.
To route your phone into the car's audio system, you can use these two items:
