SL/R129: 1998 SL 500 Headlight wiper

1998 SL 500 Headlight wiper
Does anyone know why when I turn on my windshield wiper to clean my windshield, the headlight wipers is squirting out of the nozzle and draining the windshield fluid, therefore creating the light to go on.

My guess the system is working, but I assume the fluid does not stop squirting? Is that the problem?
If after the system wipes the headlamp and windscreen, headlights on both get water and wiper movement. the pump is not getting the turn off message. I would start at the fluid tank and the wiring to the pump
the light that comes on, is that headlamp or fluid low warning light?

Hi SRHsl600,
After I use the wiper, it drains all the window washer fluid and then the light comes on. I was wondering if there is a way to disconnect the headlight wiper so it will not spray and have all the fluids drain out. Thanks

the hose from the pump can be re-routed or the pump nozzle shut down. If memory serves the pump control module is bad and can be replaced.

Just unplug the electrical connector on the headlamp washer pump. One of the first things I did on my '98 500 was yank the silly things out, plug the line from the pump and unplug the connector.
Being both fundamentally "cheap" (I am of Scottish heritage) and retired on a fixed income ("fixed" my ***, have you seen interest rates for the last 6 years?) I used 3/4" faux chrome vinyl trim to cover the holes:
I don't think it looks bad at all...

There are two pumps on the washer fluid tank, the rearmost one is the HCS (Headlamp Cleaning System) pump--just unplug the electrical connector on that pump, wrap the connector with electrical tape to keep the contacts dry and clean, and tie it off out of the way somewhere:

There is no need to pull any fuse, and if you did you would disable the windshield washer as well...
