SL/R129: Friend with sl600 r129?

Friend with sl600 r129?
Would like to meet someone in Phoenix AZ that owns r129 sl600. I have 2000 model and would like to have a friend just to compare notes. I have owned about 6 months and am working on minor things. I bought star cd and do most jobs myself. I love the car. I love just looking at it. One question I would have is " at what temp does car run" Mine alway seems to smell HOT , however in dead of summer at 110 degrees -- gauge is at 99 centigrade--- never goes above -- at stop light or at 70 mph on freeway. It never over heats but smells hot--- maybe I am just looking for a problem. The weather is changing here lately and I will test again on freeway for maybe fan clutch problem Thanks pete

Hope you found a cluster of DIY SL600 owners in the valley of the sun.
My generation of the M120 runs about 90-95 C. I have had it overheat at 7-12K feet in slow moving traffic on hot summer days in CO. My recollection is that the thermostatic valve can be changed out, but have not done so for my driving area. In other engines I often use the 95 C. because the engine has its best operation.
