ECU Reset -- THANK YOU!!
OK...a big THANK YOU to whoever posted this ECU reset trick. I have a 2006 SL65 and I decided to floor it. Something went wrong instantly and it wouldn't downshift anymore and the check engine light came on.
I looked up the ECU trick and it worked like a charm. The check engine light went off after the usual 5-6 times of restarting.

I think you are confusing transmission adaptation reset with error code reset.
Soft codes will always reset after few restarts if the error is not coming back.... till next time you floor it.
You better read the code.
