Hydraulic aftermarket fluids
Hi there! Just a qq. Need to refill the steering fluid on my sl500 1997 and wanted to know if it is imperative to get the mb one. People are telling me that as long as I refill it with dexcron 3 it is ok but they do recommend to use the mb fluid for the roof's hydraulics.
However, I do appreciate if my fellow r129 owners could chip in.
Thank you very much.
Roy

I use the MB products. The roof hydraulics and roll bar are not the same that I use in a JD tractor so I use the manufacture products I don't buy from them however. Autohaus has sold me the OEM products.
The Steering system and the 600 leveling system are the same and again I use the Benz product

I have been using aw-32 hydrolic oil in my roof hydrolics for a few months with zero issues.. It costs 12 dollars a gallon. No leaks , I even rebuild one of the lock cylinder ones and it works fine with it. I spent 22cent to put a new O-ring in the lock. I have been driving the car daily now for the last month . top up and down at each stop . at least 6 times a day. still no issues. A bunch of the MB stuff is just so they can get a hunk of your money at every turn. Just my experience.
