Help, Car won't Lock with key in door or trunk
Hello all, I have a 2000 SL500 with a unique problem, remote does not work.
I purchased the car knowing this, had a independent locksmith try to fix/pair the remote with the car to no avail. I used the key in the door to lock/unlock the car, after a while it would only unlock, switched to using the trunk lock, now nothing works. I fumbled around with the trunk lock mechanism, and if I use my finger to push on the proper lever, after pushing the latch in the closed position, the car locks/unlocks. Vacuum works, windows will go down if the key is held. I'm not sure what else to try........

If the key rotates in the driver's door lock both directions with little resistance, then the latch mechanism is broken. That is not uncommon, and two of my cars have this problem. I have never seen nor have I any experience with a failed trunk lock mechanism.
