SL/R129: Good price for R129 SL?
I'm in the market for an R129 SL500. Ideally silver exterior, black interior, and AMG mono block wheels. I'm not terribly concerned about mileage.
Curious what your thoughts are on the price of the car in this eBay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-Mercede...1ZsZkQ&vxp=mtr
Seems to tick all of the boxes for me, but I don't know enough about these to know if this is a fair price or not.
Thanks!
Eventually I picked up a 2000 with 67K miles for $9800 from a dealer. The car you're looking at is at the top of the price range - I'd say it worth closer to $12K.
And no matter how well maintained these cars are there will be some maintenance involved. I would ask how many keys it comes with. At the present time all transponder keys are on back order for 1997-2002 R129s Flip keys, master keys, and valet keys are NOT available from Mercedes Benz at the moment with no word if or when they will be available. With that in mind I feel this adds a little devaluation to these cars.
I'm not terribly worried about maintenance issues, as I self serviced a 126 I owned from 1999-2009. Obviously not the exact same thing, but similar enough.
The issue with replacement keys is a bit strange, no? Truth is I've never needed to purchase a replacement key on any car I've owned, but knowing that I may not even be able to if needed is a scary thought
I often start the search with Bring A Trailor.
From my latest read, 8-10K is a poor deal for the seller. 20-24K is strong for the seller, not so for the buyer. If you roll through the stock I would need a low purchase price. On the long term hold, how much will it take to make it a good daily driver. I always need to drive and examine before I pay.
Good luck the worst it is only money!
