Question Please Help - Help me identify this wire?

Hey guys -

So, I need some help.

I just got an SL500 and am taking care of all these little things. One project today was to tackle the peeling leather on the driver side A pillar.

In the process of taking out the pillar, I also took out the map lights, driver side visor and the plastic panel underneath the visor (by the windshield, connected to the map lights). As I took out the panel under the driver side visor, this wire just fell out without any effort.

My question: what is this wire for, exactly? My map lights currently don't come on when I open the door, just the puddle lights in the footwells - could this wire be the cause of my dome lights working?

I tried searching with the numbers on the label but to no luck. Trying to upload close up pics of the labels, but that's not working for some reason. Other pics attached.
