I haven't found anything on the subject, perhaps I am using the wrong terminology. However, the other day, I heard a loud squeal followed by the battery light coming on. Being close to home, I just continued but discovered that the engine belt had come apart and was laid out on the top of the engine cover. The "smog pump", or air pump, was seized tighter than a drum. Anybody have experience with this and, more importantly, can the pump be repaired? Just looking at options before buying a new, or overhauled, unit. Thanks in advance.

Doubtless the pump can be repaired, but locating the needed resources could be a daunting task. Surely it is cheaper and preferable to simply purchase a replacement used pump from eBay.
